CHAPTER TWELVE
When I woke up the next day, I was happy. Maybe too happy. After my morning routine I made breakfast for Mark and I, even. Pancakes, cheesy eggs, bacon, toast, the works.
“Wow, you cooked breakfast?” he said, amazed at the table full of food when he entered the kitchen.
“Yeah, I did. I’m not the best cook in the world but hopefully it’ll at least be edible,” I said. I poured us both a glass of orange juice and sat down to eat. Mark didn’t hesitate. He shoveled a spoonful of eggs into his mouth before I could even put my glass of juice down.
“This is more than edible. It’s delicious!” he assured me as he continued to eat.
“Thanks.” He was right, it was pretty good, if I did say so myself. Even so, it took me twice as long to eat as it took Mark.
“Geez, how hungry were you?” I wondered.
“Pretty hungry. I don’t really know why, I just woke up starving.” I hadn’t really gotten a good look at Mark, but I now realized that he looked a little different. Not by much, but his hair was a little messy, and I had never seen it like that before. He was always up before me so his hair was styled perfectly whenever I saw him. I couldn’t help but think he looked adorable with his messy hair.
“What’s with your hair today?” I asked as we headed into the living room after putting our rinsed off plates into the dishwasher.
“I don’t know, really. It’s getting longer and it just didn’t really want to cooperate today so I just gave up,” he answered. He ran his hands through it and tried to make it look better.
“Don’t try to fix it, it’s fine. You look kinda hot with messy hair,” I admitted. I blushed right after I said it. I felt a little embarrassed, confessing how attractive I thought he was, but apparently he didn’t seem to mind it.
“Really?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I answered quietly.
“Hey, why are you shy all of a sudden? Come here,” Mark said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me into his arms. “I haven’t really thanked you for breakfast yet,” he said.
“You don’t have to thank me, it was nothing,” I said.
“But I want to thank you,” he insisted. Here we go again. He kissed me. I kissed back. But this time, his tongue begged to enter my mouth. I was a little too busy to get another glimpse of him, but I imagined his messy hair and how good he looked in that towel the other day and I gave in to him. He pulled me onto the couch and I tightened my grip on him. In that moment, I realized that we probably needed to slow down quite a bit. It was honestly a little intense for our first real make out session, but I didn’t even care while we were in the moment. I also didn’t care when I heard a knock on the door. Mark didn’t either. He ignored it. However, when we heard the door open followed by familiar voices saying hello, we cared enough to stop.
Mark and I simultaneously looked up and saw Bob and Wade standing in the doorway. Apparently they knew Mark’s door would be unlocked so they let themselves in. They must have been really surprised to see Mark and I sucking face considering I was barely a friend to Mark when I first met them.
“Oh…sorry to interrupt…” Wade said awkwardly.
“Yeah, we wouldn’t have just walked in if we would have known…well I guess you did mention yesterday that Claire would be here but…yeah.” Bob added.
“Yeah, I know. Sorry for the surprise. This whole thing happened kind of recently,” Mark explained. “I wanted to tell you guys but I wasn’t sure how to do it.”
