We Were Both Young

Chapter 4 :

I Sneak Out to the Garden to See You

∞ Leo’s Pov ∞

Needless to say, that night was not a good one for me. I got hardly any sleep. I was shocked, embarrassed that I’d kissed the princess. I couldn’t believe it was her, the one and only princess. The next in line to the throne. The absolute untouchable which was awaiting betrothal. Although embarrassed however, I was surprisingly happy. I’d felt the connection, and her reaction proved to me that she felt it to. She was shy. She was afraid. She was masked. She hadn’t wanted to be identified.

So many thoughts were rushing through my head. This beautiful princess could potentially be mine. Here I go again with this belonging thing. What is wrong me? One night. No. One MOMENT, and I’m totally gone. I’m head over heels for this girl.

My stomach does a slight tumble at the thought of her small, plush lips against mine. Tingling, I put my fingers to my lips, remembering the feel of her own soft, cool lips. I had to taste them again. I had to see her again.

The more I thought about her, the more rage began to fill me inside. I wasn’t about to just let her get away. The thought that she’d soon be marrying somebody else made my body tense up with jealous anger, something I rarely, if ever, had previously felt over a woman.

Why was this one different?

“Leo,” Mitch was on the other side of my door, “Breakfast is served.”

“I’ll be right down,”

I dragged myself out of bed, throwing on extra layers of clothing over my sleep wear. I slowly walked down the stairs, making my way to the kitchen.  I wasn’t really hungry. I settled for some freshly squeezed orange juice and a slice of dry toast hoping it would help settle my stomach. I was feeling exceptionally nauseous all of sudden. My mind was spinning with thoughts of Isabella. I couldn’t get her of my mind.

“what you doing today?” Mitch broke the silence

“Not sure yet,” I said, not wanting to make conversation.

“C’mon Leo. You gotta get over this one, okay? Please. It ain’t never gonna happen for us.”

“hmmm,” I grunted.

“Leo,” he came closer, staring me down, “Promise me.”

“Yea. Sure. Anything.” I said, not really focusing on him. My mind was running through plans to try and see Isabella again.

“That’s about as convincing as me telling you there’ll be a thunderstorm tonight,” he said chuckling.

I looked outside noticing that it was a perfect summer’s day. Some horse riding out in the meadows would be great today.

“Look,” he continued, “Let us go to The Saloon tonight. Take your mind of things?”

“Not tonight,” I said, quickly adding, “Maybe tomorrow though?”

“Okay fine. But you’re not allowed to change your mind,” he raised his finger warningly.

“ I won’t ,” I muttered, finishing off my juice, “I’m heading out for a ride on Jupiter.”
