We are all living on numbered days, some of us aware of it, other not. We live in this imaginary eternal life span but it's not true. It's so far from the truth it's surreal. Every once in a while we are reminded of the fragility of this day to day journey.
Spring day is something we all look forward too. The icy winter ends and the new leaves break through and blossom. However, there was on special lady looking forward to this day more than most could ever imagine. Our spring carnival had arrived and after spending weeks on end in hospital she too broke free of her hospital bed. What a day she had. Seeing her friends and being back where most people hated, yet she so adored.
She lay her head on the pillow one last time, closed her eyes and her sole broke free. She was tired. Tired of the fight to live.
The bravest person I have ever met. Said she was only to live to 12 yet she would have celebrated her 17th birthday this year. The fighter inside her lives with those who surrounded her. Never did her smile faultier. Never did her heart not love. And just as flowers do, she blossomed- bright beautiful colours into the night, leaving us all behind with the memories that we will forever cherish.
