"Car radio" Twenty One Pilots
I hate this car that I'm driving
There's no hiding for me
I'm forced to deal with what I feel
There is no distraction to mask
what is real
-❀-Athena
"Hurry up!" I call back.
My ride home, whom I realized I haven't been formally introduced to, shambles a few strides behind me.
Exhilaration fuels my feet as I jounce down the pavement.
Every so often, an adrenaline rush will overwhelm my senses and feed on my frenetic judgement and thrashing curiosity.
It's been proven that I tend to make bad choices at times like these, but some of the greatest stories make from these lastings.
Even so, I usually make impulsive decisions even when I am in my right sense.
"Which one is it?" I ask as we, well I, reach a field bounded by cars. Most of them are cheap, beat up motors on wheels.
I swing my hands back and forth as I stand by waiting for instructions.
"It's that one, actually," the car's headlights directly beside me illuminate the darkness with a blinding brightness.
Due to the overwhelming set of lights impeding my vision, I'm unable to make out any specific details, although I don't know much about cars either way.
I can see that the vehicle has snowy white exterior, it looks sleek.
I cover my eyes with my hands until I reach a safe, non-hazardous zone from overawing light rays. I pull open the passenger door and move onto the leather seat.
Like I said, I don't know much about cars, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out this car was expensive.
When the driver's door opens, the car automatically starts without any insertion of a key. How evidently lazy yet convenient.
When dude sits in the driver seat, I watch him with a questioning eyebrow as he fidgets with every knob controlling the ventilation inside the car.
"It's just a thing I do. Are you cold?" he asks.
"Just a bit," I say just for a kick. He reassesses every knob and switches amongst them until his hands fall uselessly to his lap.
I have so many questions, but instead a strangled laugh I didn't intend to let out sounds.
"You never told me your name," I acknowledge.
I felt his piercing eyes and smile as I smush my check on the cold, condensed window.
"It's Kai," he reveals.
I would have never thought of him to be a Kai, given that it is so unlike any other name, but more than that, you would think of a more- rough name when you saw him. I don't mean to label anybody, but his tattoos and towering figure give him an intimidating aura, but hearing him say Kai, it fits him perfectly. It's the perfect mystery for his esoteric eyes and tattoo covered body that made him slightly threatening, but he had a smile that was so endearing that it could make you forget all of that in an instant.
He begins to pull out of the ditch and I focus on the way his hands grip the steering wheel then expertly move over and under, a technique then isn't easy.
"This is a nice car," I praise. I didn't really care about the car, I just didn't want the ride to be spent in sitff silence. The radio was off which didn't make anything better.
"Thanks," he quips.
"Are you always this curt?"
He grinned but his hand moved to his lips where his thumb fidgeted with his bottom lip; he tugged and fondled with it all while keeping one hand on the steering wheel and both eyes on the road.
"Not always," he said, "Which way do I turn?"
"Left," I say. He follows my basic instructions until we're in front of my apartment.
"Thank you for the ride, Kai," I say. I lean forward and reach for the handle, but I quickly reconsider.
"Do you want to come in?" I ask.
He appears to consider this, "I don't think that's a good idea."
"Oh please," I scoff. "Although I appreciate the gesture, you weren't exactly the most fun person to ride with, maybe you just need some house warming."
"You're playing a dangerous game, Athena," I internally roll my eyes and parade out of the car.
"Yeah, yeah," I murmur under my breath after I shut the door.
I shuffle over to the driver's door and swing it open,
"Come on," I demand.
I start in the direction to my small residency.
I'm already at my door and still no sign of Kai behind me.
I turn around and see Kai with one hand on his car door swaying reluctantly.
"It usually doesn't take this much banter to get a guy moving," I state.
"I just don't want to abuse my power, the ride was just a gesture of goodwill, my intentions are pure," he cautions.
"First of all, let's get one thing straight; you hold no power over me. Secondly, it's cold. Let's move, when we get inside, you can tell me all about her."
The sound of shoes hitting the pavement overpower the jigging of my keys. I feel Kai's presence beside me.
"Oh great, we're on the same page," I mumble.
I push the door open and switch the light on.
My apartment is decent, and I kick off my converse."What did you mean when you said we could talk about her?" Kai says with a sense of urgency right behind me.
I turn around and have to tilt my head at an angle in order to look straight into his eyes.
I hold up a finger lazily, "hold that thought."
