Athena

"I'm going fall asleep," I say aloud. It's noon now, and the sun is warming up my skin.

"We should eat then," Kai offers. I open one eye to look at him.

He reclaimed his sunglasses, and the pink hairband is still intact.

His shirt is off, probably tucked into my beach bag. The sweat that sat on his stomach is glistening due to the sun above him.

Since 7:30 AM, the beach has grown with many more faces. I knew this would be the case, being why I forced myself awake at 6.

I sit up, reaching for whatever kind of meal Kai grabbed from the cooler.

When it's in my hands, I see a tomato and cheese concoction on Italian bread.

"Peanut Butter and Jelly would have been enough," I joke, taking a bite after. I immediately eat my words, because this is the tastiest sandwich I've ever eaten.

"Good?" Kai faintly smirks, and I nod at the understatement.

Needless to say, I finished my sandwich in only a few bites. And a bit of Kai's too anyway.

"Here," Kai says before tossing a water at me. I make contact with it, but drop it in the sand.

He laughs at me, and I glare at him before reaching forward and picking it up.

It's the fancy kind of water which to me doesn't taste any different than tap water.

"So, is this what it's like to be on a date with Kai-," I pause because I realize I don't know his last name, "fancy sandwiches and expensive water?"

He snickers, takes a drink from his water bottle, then speaks: "It's not even in the same ballpark."

"Hmm, what's that suppose to me?" I challenge, but end up laughing at myself.

"Athena Pierre,"

-I remember when I slipped and told him my last name. He pronounced it weird then, because of his accent, and he still does now.

"are you asking my out on a date?" he gasps, 'shocked'.

"You'd still have to pay of course, if you were to take me on a date," I remark.

"Wait, let me get this straight. You asked me on a date, but it's me who has to pay? How absurd," he furrows his eyebrows together, waiting for a reply.

"I didn't ask you out on a date, I just asked you a question," I laugh.

"Yeah, and that question was if I'd go on a date with you," he banters.

"Fine, then we won't go on a date," I try my best be serious, and not burst out in a fit of laughter.

"Hey, I didn't say that-," he begins but I cut him off.

"Ha! Just admit it. You want to take me on a date," I say.

"You'd have to wear something fancy," he says.

"I know," I agree.

And that was the end of it.
