It was properly sad when we pulled into the beach. Athena was reluctant to leave the car, but I assured her that it was even cooler to ride in at night. It was, the stars danced in the sky, weighing against the darkness, and the not so cold air hugged your skin.

"Where do you want to sit?" Athena asks.

"You can find somewhere, I'll go get a parasol, yeah?" I grab my wallet, which I slipped in Athena's beach bag, and head off to the shack.

Behind the counter, a brunette with blue eyes sat on a tabletop swinging her legs as she typed away on her phone.

I clear my throat, but she still doesn't look up.

"Excuse me," I say, sounding particularly calm.

"One second," she snaps, holding up a finger. What the fuck.

After 10 or so seconds, when she puts her phone down, she scoots off of the table in direction to the cash register with her head down.

"What do you want," she mumbles, not bothering to look up.

"Well, firstly, it'd be nice if you looked at me when you're addressing me," I remark.

She looks up like she's ready to attack, the reason, I have no clue as I did nothing to her, but an abrupt look of shock then a smile consumes her face.

"Sorry about that," she looks down and laughs, by herself, "I'm Sara."

"Yeah, nice. I need 1 parasol please," I say.

She stares at me blankly, rolls her tongue against her cheeks, then pushes 1 button to ring me up.

"25 dollars," she scoffs.

I sort through the wad of cash in my wallet, but the smallest bill I have is a fifty. I hand her my debit card, which she takes as soon as I hold it out, then swipes it.

"So," she says, still holding my card in her hands, "do I dare and ask if you have a girlfriend."

I want to roll my eyes, but instead I reach over and grab my card from her prying hands.

"I don't," I say, then leave her alone and walk to pick up the $25 sunshade.

I never did like Americans.

"There you are!" Athena exclaims, looking away from the words of her book.

She has on my sunglasses, and she took off the white button down that devoured her, leaving her in a plain white bathing suit top and light colored shorts that stopped just above her belly button.

She sits up, and I notice now her hair isn't running with the wind like it did in the car, it's tied into a loose bun with stray curls falling out in random areas.

"What took so long?" she marvels.

"I was being hit on," I say then dig the dolly into the sand. It shades a big area, including the cooler full of ice and food.

"Really?" she quips, a small smile painted on her lips.

"Oh definitely," I muse. She moves her feet into her and I sit at the end of the towel.

"Maybe you should get her number," she raises an eyebrow.

"I'm a bit preoccupied," I say, then close my eyes and let the sun darken my semi tanned skin.
