Sorting

Rose's POV

"We will be arriving shortly leave your luggage on the train it will be sent to the castle" as voice said as I entered my compartment. The boys were in their robes sitting in their seats while Remus put his book away. I did the same with my book as we pulled into the station.

We exited the train and heard someone calling for first years. Sirius took my hand and guided me through the crowd to where Hagrid was waiting. When all the first years arrived, Hagrid took us to boats.

"No more then four to  a boat" he told us. I looked at the four boys gloomily and waved. I joined Lily, Severus and a blonde haired boy in a separate boat.  Hagrid made sure we were all in the boats and said "forward." The boats moved on their own across the river.

When we got to the other side Severus helped Lily out of the boat. While Sirius came to help me and guided me to where the other boys were. We followed Hagrid to a big door and he knocked.

A stern looking woman opened the door and let us into the castle. Hagrid left us with her and she began to speak. "Welcome to Hogwarts I am Professor McGonagall, in a few moments you'll pass through these doors to join the other students. But first you must be sorted into your house there are four of them. Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin" she explained.

Ten minutes later she lead us into the great hall and most of the students were amazed by the ceiling. "It's not the real ceiling. it is bewitched to look like the night sky" I told Peter. Who nodded and looked away from the ceiling to looked at the four long house tables.

We waited in a line in front of the staff table as McGonagall told us to. She explained how she'd call our names and would place an old hat onto our heads as we sat on the stool next to her. Sirius went first and was placed into Gryffindor this seemed to shock a few people.

Then it was Lily's turn and she was sorted into Gryffindor and sat next to Sirius. It was my turn and the hat was placed onto my head. "Difficult, you could belong to two separate houses" it stated.

Is one of them Gryffindor? If so can I be in that house? I asked. "Very well ... Gryffindor!" the hat shouted and the students all clapped. I went to sit in between my sister and brother to watched the others get sorted.

Remus, Peter and James were sorted into Gryffindor with us. James greeted Lily and shook her hand. Severus was sorted into Slytherin and Lily gave him an encouraging smile. We ate together and Sirius gave me some chocolate cake. Before Remus ate it all.

Then the prefects showed us to Gryffindor tower. We passed a bunch of moving stairs and portraits. The password was 'Animagi' and they told us not to tell anyone outside Gryffindor the password. They then told us the rules, about the notice board and whose was whose dormitory.

Lily and I went upstairs to discover we would be sharing our dorm with two other girls Marlene and Alice. They introduced each other before changing into their pj's. I said good night to everyone including Mary who was perched on a the chair next to me bed. Then I fell asleep in my four poster bed.
