Anna's POV:
I came from a small city in Orange County, but now I've moved half way across the United States to New York City. All my friends that I've graduated with this past year are taking a year off before they start working after many years of hard work in college, but not me.I went to my commencement ceremony and graduated getting straight on a plane heading to New York. Why? Well I was offered a teaching job at an all deaf and hard of hearing elementary school. That's right you heard me correctly, deaf and hard of hearing. Sign language is my minor, but I've always wanted to teach the deaf.
There are only a few problems with this. One, I'm only registered as an elementary school teacher in California, so I'll have to take night classes while teaching so I can remain a teacher here in New York. Two, because I graduated over the summer I only have a week and half to get settled into my tiny apartment before school starts up again. Three, I've never lived away from my friends and family before, especially in a city as big as New York, so I'm a bit terrified.
I don't know anyone in New York besides my one co-worker, Tory. She is very sweet and kind when I went into my interview giving me lots of support and love. When I was told I got the job she said she'd give me a personal tour of New York as well as school. Tory said she'd even take me to my first ever Broadway show right before school starts up again as she and I both love musicals. There are so many musicals playing on Broadway now and I have no clue what show we'll be seeing as she said she's keeping it a surprise.
I thought the traffic in California was crazy, well it's nothing compared to the streets of New York. After what seems like hours I finally find a parking spot, but it's a bit of a walk from my apartment which sucks because I'll be carrying large moving boxes with me filled with stuff.
Once I've locked my car door I start carrying two large boxes and one medium size box on top of the other two, but I can barely see in front of me.
I should have worn my tennis shoes because my feet are already killing me, my arms hurt, I'm out of breath, and I can hardly see in front of me because of these stupid boxes! And I still have a long way to go till I reach my apartment.
I feel something slam hard into my side and I end up dropping the boxes because of it having the contents scatter everywhere as I fall harshly to the ground.
I quickly look at the culprit who slammed into me and see a young boy in his early twenties with jet black hair, brown eyes, and freckles dancing all across his nose.
"Hey watch it! Couldn't you see that I was walking here? I mean how could you miss me? I was carrying three large boxes! Great just great."
Thankfully I decided to grab the boxes that had my clothes, books, and school supplies in it so there was nothing breakable. I start scrambling to pick up the contents when the boy decides to speak.
"I'm terribly sorry Miss I was running late to practice and I didn't see you. Here let me help you."
He bends down and starts picking stuff up putting them in boxes.
"I'm sorry kid I didn't mean to yell. I guess I'm just a bit stressed, thank you for helping me."
We finish picking up all the scattered stuff and putting them in the three boxes.
"It's ok I sort of deserved it," he picks up both large boxes, "just moving here? I'll help carry these for you while you lead the way." He smiles.
I was greatly surprised, but greatful as I picked up the medium sized box, "yes, I've moved from California actually."
"California is nice, I've been there a few times. So why'd you move?"
We start walking heading in the direction of my apartment. "I moved for work. I'm an elementary school teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing. I actually start work next week."
He perks up and smiles, "really? Have you ever heard of the show Spring Awakening?"
"Yeah I've heard of it, but I've never listened to the music or've seen it. I honestly don't know anything about the story."
He sighs, "oh well you should see it sometime I've heard it's good. It just recently came back to Broadway."
"Oh well I probably won't have much time being a new teacher and all. Also I still have to unpack like my whole apartment." I didn't want to tell him that my coworker was taking me to see a Broadway show because I didn't think it important.
After climbing three flights of stairs we finally get to my door. "Thank you er um..." I realize I didn't know the boy's name.
"Anthony, Anthony Zas."
"Thank you Anthony for helping me with these boxes and sorry for yelling at you."
He smiles, "don't mention it Miss..."
"Anna Ramerez, call me Anna though."
"It was lovely to meet you Miss Anna perhaps I'll see you again, but I really must go. I'm already a half hour late for practice and I know the dir--coach will just have a fit. Goodbye."
I watch the black haired kid run off, "coach? I wonder what sport he plays?" I shrug it off and start unpacking.
A/N: This story takes place about 3 years after the touring cast of Newsies closes, so some of the actors will be a bit older than they are now. This isn't newsies related, but some of the cast will return in my story. This plot has been in my head for sometime now, so I decided to write a story on it. I hope you all enjoy ♡ zero
