After the awkward and extremely flirty conversation we had over dinner, Will stood up to grab my attention. I immediately looked up to his framed face.
"Where are you going?" I asked him in a sad tone
"No, that's not the question," He paused "It's where are we going?"
He leaned over and put out his hand for me to grab, just like a real gentleman. But this time, something was different. I wasn't just happy to touch him I was nervous. When I grabbed his hand it was like a flood rushed into my stomach. It was like I needed him to touch me to hold me. I needed him.
I stood up with him holding my hand. I didn't want to let go but I did.
"Thanks for the support," I smirked.
"Anytime," He smiled to show even more support. "Same thing as before, close your eyes and just trust me."
I closed my eyes with excitement. My body felt like I could fly into the air, float even. It felt I was a cloud and he was my anchor. I needed him to stay down to earth.
We walked down the hill one of his arms around my waist holding me close. The other holding my hand to make sure I had enough support to not fall down. My eyes were closed and looking into the deep dark abyss of my mind. This was it. This was what my life has been leading to. I hope he's mine. I don't even care if he's a ghost. I hope he doesn't care that I'm alive.
"Okay," Will stopped walking. "Now open!" He exclaimed.
I opened up my eyes to find the never used fire pit aflame. Just like my heart. Just like every part of my body. It was aflame. A brilliant, gold yellow and orange. Big, bold, brilliant. I turned towards Will. His hands on the top sides of my arms. I just stood there looking into his blue eyes in astonishment. I didn't expect this not after that amazing dinner.
We just kept standing there. In the peeping sun shining through the trees surrounding the fire pit.
"Shall we?" Will directed me to the cushions set by the firepit.
I walked over and sat down on a teal cushion that looked like the belt around my dress. Will took the one next to me. I took off my heels. They made me uncomfortable. I rarely wore heels and my feet were definitely not used to it based on the red marks that surrounded my foot.
"You're very quiet," He whispered into my ear. "Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing at all." I smiled back at him.
"Good." He smiled in reply. He started to lean in for a kiss.
"Hello, you two!" Anne and Mary said in unison both holding two trays
Will pulled back and sat up. I laughed at him.
"What?" He asked in response to my laugh.
"Nothing," I responded. "I'll tell you later." I continued to laugh.
"Anyways," Anne interjected. "We brought you two the items for dessert. Just as requested."
Anne leaned over to put the tray down in front of Will and me. As she stood up I stood with her. They looked at me, confused. I leaned over the obstacles in front of me and hugged both of them together.
"Thank you both," I whispered into their ears while my arms were still wrapped around them "Thank you, so much."
I back out of the hug and sat down. They just stood there. Shocked. Looked at each other than down to Will.
"She's a keeper," Anne said and Mary nodded in justification.
I laughed at their comment and Will looked over to me.
"I'll keep that in mind." He said assuringly.
All that was going through my mind was She's a keeper over and over again. She's a keeper. She's a keeper. And Will agreed with them.
"Good." Anne and Mary said again in unison and walked back through the back door of the house.
Will resumed what he was doing before Anne and Mary walked in. He leaned over and his perfect lips touched the side of my forehead, then my cheek, next my nose and finally his lips rested on mine. We paused without a care in the world. I could do this for the rest of the night. Just kissing not talking. Us locking lips the whole night until we were too deprived of air we had to stop. Oh, how much a girl can dream. We stopped coming up for the smokey air.
"Shall we?" He asked picking up the silver dome.
Underneath there was a stack of graham crackers, next to that there was a bowl of cut up squares of chocolate and a bowl of marshmallows. Smore's! No way! My favorite dessert ever! Especially during summer. In recent years I rarely had them. My parents were never home during the summer enough to have a family firepit. I still ate them, though. Just microwaved it. They just were not as good. I looked at Will. I opened my mouth trying to get a word out
" Your favorite dessert?" He said reading my mind. "Yeah, I know."
"How?" I managed to ask.
"I practically live with you." He responded in a laughing manner.
"Yeah, I suppose so," I laughed at him. "Thank you." I leaned over to hug him.
"Anytime." He whispered into my ear. "Okay listen, I have never had one. So, let's get into it."
I grabbed a marshmallow for me and him. Put both on a stick and handed it to him.
"Give it your best shot. It truly is an art," I say as I put two on a stick and place it in the fire. "Watch me."
And he did. Will eventually managed not to burn one. They were still delicious. We ate countless Smore's and laughed so much my stomach had cramps because of the laughed exercising. We ended the night cuddling in the blankets just looking up at the stars. His arm was under my head and he kept kissing my forehead. It was silent for the most part. The occasional pointing. Will fell asleep to the sound of the wind. While he was off dreaming, a shooting star flew. And ever since I met Will a ghost I have believed in more things including wishes upon a star.
I wish for more night like this. I wish for more nights like this with Will.
I eventually woke up Will and we walked groggily into the house. Saying good night and sharing one more short peck on the lips. I thanked him for such a great night and said good night as we went our separate ways in the house.
