That night I slept soundly. I woke up smiling and sprung put of bed. I was still in my clothes from last night. As I smelled them I coughed on the scent of smoke but deep beneath that I smelled her. Just her natural scent. The smell was fresh and put an even bigger smile on my face. It was mint because she had migraines every time she smelled something strong like lavender or sage.

After I took a shower I put on my striped blue and gray t-shirt over my white undershirt. I pulled on blue jeans and socks. As usual, I pulled a black beanie over my head and pulled out my fringe. As I checked the mirror to make sure I looked good enough to see Sara a knock tapped my door.

"Will, Get up." a voice that sounded like my mom chimed.

"I am," I replied, "Dressed too." Sounding like I had won an award but with my date last night I basically had.

"Wow." My mom sounded surprised as she opened up the door. I nodded back to her to allow her to come in.

"Heard you were out late from your father?" She said in more of a question than a statement

I rolled my eyes, "Oh, yeah what else did you hear?" I quizzed her on the information that she knew.

"Not much. He told me you were with a girl but that was about it," She smirked, "I didn't want to push it, seemed like he wasn't too happy." She finished solemnly.

My mom always hated it when my dad pushed her away. Even though he had done it to all of us since the incident.

"Well, her name is Sara..." I sang

I did not know where to go from there. Well, her name is Sara. She's my age almost exactly. She's smart, funny, sweet. Oh, yeah and I almost forgot she's living. But I didn't have to say it. She knew when I paused to think.

I sat down on my bed in anguish. She sat down as well like she was ready to give me a real talk and she most definitely did.

"Do you love her?" She inquired.

"Mom! It was one date. One!" I made sure to make the emphases on one.

"I'm sorry. Okay, let's try this again. Do you like her? Do you see a future?" she asked calmly

"Yes. I like her very very much. I see something with her regardless of the challenges." I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs. But I said it proudly.

"Okay then, there is not much more to discuss," She said standing up and leaving the room. And between the slit in the open door, she spoke "If you really like her do something special for her this morning." and closed the door.

I really do like her. I shot straight up and ran down the hall past my mom and sisters bickering. "For the girl, I really like something special is coming," I whispered to myself almost slipping on the weak traction between the hardwood floor and my socks.
