I Never Knew

Fire and Ice

"Oh, look, it's the wild Shizu-chan in his natural habitat!" crows the dark haired raven as he looks down on Shizuo from his perch atop the wall the blonde man was walking by. Shizuo Hewajima growls deeply and continues walking. He isn't in the mood for Izaya's annoyances today. Izaya Orihara leaps onto the ground beside Shizuo and walks beside him for a minute, the ex-bartender ignoring him the whole time.

Izaya grins and says "Aw, Shizu-chan, not feeling it today?" Shizuo's short temper got the best of him and he took a swing at the informant's head. Izaya steps to the side stealthily to avoid the flying fist as he flipped open his pocket knife.

"Now that's my grumpy Shizu-chan!" he says, grinning wide. Shizuo stops suddenly and takes a deep breath, before turning to calmly walk away.

"Shut up and leave me alone, flea." The former bartender says. As he walks away, he leaves Izaya behind, too baffled to mess with the blonde more. Shizuo never just walked away from him! He knew something was going on with the blonde he secretly cared for. But, he could never let anyone know how he felt, especially Shizu-chan.

Shizuo sits on his bed with his hands covering his face as salty tears stream down from his eyes. He doesn't know how much longer he can keep up the tough guy act before totally losing it. He was tired of being feared, of being the "monster of Ikebukuro".

"That little flea isn't making things any better." He says coldly, but he instantly softens and says "But I know I can't live without him." He smiles warmly as thoughts of Ikebukuro's best info broker float through his head. Shizuo lays down and stares up at the ceiling, wondering if there was any way Izaya could love someone like him. "No," he says aloud "I'm fire, and he's ice. My feeling toward Izaya can't be mutual....but..... opposites attract."
