I Never Knew

Promises

Izaya woke to the mouth-watering smell drifting through Shizuo's apartment. He sits up, and it takes a second for him to realize where he was, and to sort through his thoughts of the previous night. 

"Breakfast will be ready soon." he hears Shizuo say from the kitchen, which is a little room separated from the living room with only a small counter. Shizuo is at the stove cooking something Izaya can't see. The raven gets up and walks to the counter, sitting on a stool in front of it. He sees that the  blonde bartender has a stack of pancakes beside him and is currently making eggs. 

"Don't you just love the smell of pancakes in the morning, Shizu-chan?" Izaya says to Shizuo. The blonde smiles warmly in reply. When Shizuo finishes the eggs, he dishes out two platefuls and the two males sit at the table to eat, chatting happily in the process. 

A few minutes later, they finish their breakfast. Izaya looks at the clock and realizes it's almost noon. "Oh my." he says "I must take my leave now, Shizu-chan. I have my loyal customers to tend to.....that is..... except Xavier. He keeps asking me to find out where his order of children's clothing has gone...and let's just say he doesn't have any kids..."

Shizuo pauses for a moment before saying "Well, have fun with that. I'll see ya later, I guess."

"Indeed you will" the informant says before heading to the door. He opens it and steps into the hallway after waving to the blonde bartender. He starts to close the door behind him but pauses when Shizuo says "Wait, Izaya...." he stops to take a deep breath before continuing "W-will you go out with me?" 

The raven smiles widely and says "I thought you'd never ask. Of course I will, Shizu-chan!" Izaya winks before closing the door between the two males.

Shizuo stares at the door for a few moments after the raven left. Izaya's last words were floating around in his head.

                                                       "Of course I will, Shizu-chan!"

The blonde gets up to watch Izaya get into his car from the window. He watches his love drive off as he whispers "I'll always protect you, my flea." Little does he know that very soon, his promise will be broken.
