On a night like this
a book is left unread,
dinner untouched,
calls missed,
a door locked
and a room already dark
all because you feel unwanted.
But remember the sky lantern
we released, dear one
on a night like this.
She is part paper,
part fire,
part unwanted by the sky;
But she braves the wind
and the rain---
a flame is burning
wild inside of her.
Look how it lifts her up.
Look how she makes a difference
in the dark.
