Joel slams the door behind him as he lets out a breath, the long hall in front of us is empty except for the sounds of the Infected bouncing off the walls. "Let's um... We'll sneak out the back" Bill says "Fuck, there's infected all around" I whisper. Joel leads us down the hall, my hand hovers over my back pocket, right over my switchblade. I would never be able to kill anyone, but knowing that it's there makes me feel slightly better. Joel holds up a hand signaling for us to stop, he slowly loads an arrow into his bow, he sucks in a breath as he holds the arrow steady. He lets the arrow fly, hitting the Clicker in the head, it falls down without making a sound. We all slowly creep down the hallway stopping when we hear another Clicker walking towards us, I crouch down and grab a brick lying next to a water fountain as Joel kills the other Clicker. "Alright the rest are Runners" Bill whispers, both of them pull out their guns and go at it.
He shoots the nearest one, all of the infected yell and turn towards us, I hold the brick tighter in my hand and back away from everyone slowly, Bill and Joel shoot all of them. "Down the hall, I bet we could cut through one of those classrooms" Bill says, we run into the nearest classroom, I crouch down behind the teacher's desk as three infected walk into the classroom "I got this" Joel whispers, he slowly pulls out something from his backpack then chucks it over the desks, the infected all yell and run towards the sound, I hear a loud explosion so I guess Joel threw a bomb. "Looks like there's a path down this hallway" Joel says quietly. We creep slowly down the hallway, but stop when more infected walk towards us. "Aw fuck this" Joel mutters and throws a Molotov at them, flames burst all around them, there really are a lot of Infected in this school, and we haven't even walked half the campus.
We all run to the double doors at the end of the hallway "Help me open this" Joel says, Bill leans against the door next to him, they hit the door repeatedly. After a few good hits they finally are able to shove open the doors, I run through the crack first then Joel, then Bill. All three of us push the large rack of mats against the door so the Infected on the other side can't get through. "It's not gonna hold for long" I say as I step away from them. A loud, almost a roar type sound erupts from the double doors on the other side of the gym, what could even possibly make that sound? "That don't sound good" Joel mutters, the doors suddenly burst open and a huge creature, like a Clicker but 5 times bigger. "Oh, no..." Joel says, he turns around quickly and looks at me "Stay behind me at all times" Joel commands. He frantically pulls out a Molotov from his backpack and lights it, he chucks it at the, well, whatever that thing is. It engulfs in flames, that doesn't stop it though.
"What the fuck is that?" I yell as it throws something at us, it explodes behind me, some yellow looking dust surrounds us, I soon realize that it's spores. Spores don't effect me, Joel however is coughing and trying to get away from the puff of spores. I shove him away from the spores then run after him "It's a goddamn bloater" Joel yells back, he throws a bomb at the Bloater, the big guy steps on it and explodes. He's still up and walking around. It chucks another spore bomb thingy at us luckily I push Joel out of the way in time, "Why won't it die?" I yell, "It has a protective armor, the fungus protects it" Joel yells, Bill grabs his shotgun then runs towards the Bloater.
He shoots it in the head. It falls down, I breathe out a sigh of relief, "Let's get on top of these bleachers, c'mon Joel, give me a boost" Bill says. Joel bends his knees and cups his hand and lifts Bill on top of the bleachers, Joel grabs my hip and pushes me in front of him "Alright, c'mon" he says and picks me up by my waist. I grab Bill's hand and he pulls me up, "Joel behind ya!" Bill yells, Joel turns around quickly and shoots the runners that charge at him. I hurl a brick at one that is way too close, Joel shoots it with his shotgun making it fly backwards, Bill shoots the last one "Alright I got it, come on up" Bill says and holds out his hand to Joel.
Joel jumps up and grabs Bill's hand and he pulls him up, "Okay let's fucking move!" I yell and jump out the window. I land on the ground as Joel and Bill fall down behind me, we run through a hole in the gate and Bill points to a ladder. It's resting against the fence that's in front of a backyard, Bill climbs up first. "Ellie, go!" Joel yells, I climb up the ladder faster than I could imagine with Joel right behind me, Bill knocks over the ladder with a rake "Inside the house, now" he says and pushes us into the house.
