"Only for you Anderson." He snickered.

"Take a seat next to the brunette at the back. The rest of you may begin." I didn't realise he was referring to me until the guy slid into the seat next to me. I rolled my eyes and started scribbling away, while my right hand fiddled with the ring on my thumb.

I felt him poke my arm. I froze. I ignored it the first couple of times, but when it got too irritating to ignore I turned to him. "What?" I snapped as he pulled out an ear bud. I snatched it from his hands making sure our skin didn't touch.

"I need a pen." He asked. his voice was deep and husky. I knew girls would melt like butter at the sound of his voice. If I wasn't irritated by him I'd probably fall for his charms too. I sighed and handed over my spare pen before turning back to my work. I finished before the end of the hour so I started packing my books away. I walked up to the front of the class to hand my paper in. Mr Anderson looked up.

"I don't think we've met." He said.

"I'm new." I told him.

"Oh and what's your name?" He asked. He had this twinkle in his eye which I didn't like.

"Rori." I replied while placing my paper on his desk.

"Thank you Rori. Since have finished early you may leave the class. Do you know your way around the school yet?" He asked.

"This is my first day. I don't have an eidetic memory so I haven't memorized the map yet." I told him before walking out the class. I didn't stop to see his expression or the rest of the class' faces. Any thoughts of the gray eyed jock were left in that room as I wandered the empty hallways in search of the library.

I strode over to the crime section and pulled out a Tom Clancy book before sitting on the floor against the bookshelf. The library was the most impressive part of the school, one of the reasons I chose to study here. The bookshelves were huge and bolted to the ground, containing some of the best books any school had to offer, with some original copies of classic American writers.

I became so engrossed in the book that I jumped when the bell rang. I groaned and placed the book back on the shelf before attempting to find my next lesson, US history. As I walked I placed my glasses back in my pocket.

"Rori!" I heard someone call. I turned to find Jess bounding towards me.

"I'm so glad I found you. I was waiting outside Math for you but Mr Anderson said you had left early." She said.

"Yeah, I finished the test early." I shrugged.

"Was it hard?" She asked sympathetically.

"No." I told her truthfully.

"It wasn't hard?" She asked sadly.

"I just said it wasn't." I said.

"I was hoping you were bad at Math." She explained.

"Why did you want me to be bad at Math?" I asked frowning.

"Because then I wouldn't feel so stupid." She replied.

"Don't worry, I'm not that good at Math." What I didn't tell her was Math was my strongest subject. Back home I excelled in Math, entering and winning competitions like one would win the spelling bee.

"Maybe you could tutor me?" She asked.

"Sure." I replied unconvincingly. We stepped into the classroom together. She naturally lead us to the front but I slipped past her and walked towards the back.

"Rori. What are you doing?" Jess whispered loudly.

"I'm sitting down." I told her. She rolled her eyes.
