"I feel like haven't seen you in a while kid."
"We saw each other yesterday Donny." I grinned, taking a sip of my coffee.
"Stop being such a smartass kid." Donny rolled his eyes. "Any plans for Thanksgiving?"
"Me and thanksgiving? I have nothing to be thankful for. Well maybe a few things. But I'm not celebrating it this year. Not for a few years. What about you?"
"Oh one of my colleagues is hosting a party at his house, so I'll spend the night there. You should come with me. I could introduce you as my niece." The aging police officer looked hopeful.
"Thanks for the offer Don. But I'm better off alone." I told him, only slightly regretful.
"You've been doing so well kiddo why ruin what you have by spending a massive festivity alone?"
"I will celebrate thanksgiving. Just on my own. Plus I'll be up for Black Friday sales to get some stuff dirt cheap." I laughed.
"I'm with you on that." Donny laughed with me. We continued chatting for a while before saying our goodbyes. I went home while he began his night patrol. I began writing in my book again when my phone rang.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Rori!" Christian exclaimed.
"What?" I muttered.
"Hi." I could tell he was grinning from ear to ear.
"Is that all you want? Okay bye." I hung up on him. Not a moment later he called again.
"What do you want Christian?" I groaned.
"Were you sleeping?" he asked, a twinge of worry seeped into his voice.
"Yes. Now what do you want?" I asked.
"Nothing."
"Nothing? You called me up at four o' clock in the morning for nothing? Bullshit"
"Okay fine. I couldn't sleep."
"So you decide to call me at four to what? Talk?"
"Well, yeah?"
"Fine. What do want to talk about?"
"Actually I wanted to asked you something." He asked hesitantly. My heart stopped. I couldn't breathe. My vision had become blurry. I stumbled towards the kitchen.
"Rori?" he asked.
"Yes?" I asked.
"You're coming?"
"Coming for what?" I found my voice.
"For thanksgiving." I placed the phone on the counter top and let out a sigh of relief. I sunk to the ground with the phone in my hand.
"I mean if you're not doing anything." He said quickly.
"Why do you want me to come?" I asked my voice slightly breathless.
"Because." He said, his voice stiff.
"Fine. What time do you want me to come?"
"Twelve."
"I'll be there at six."
"I said..."
"I know what you said. I don't need to be there so early." I told him.
"Please." He pleaded.
"No." I told him firmly.
"Fine be like that." I smiled.
