Chapter 18 - Pretending

Minjung's POV

I slowly walked down the street in casual clothes, looking at the shops, being sentimental.

Aahhhh snap out of it. I lightly slapped myself a few times on the cheeks.

I tried to get the image, the memory off my head. But it just keeps resurfacing and I'm getting annoyed at myself.

Like, why do I care? He's just a fiancee that I don't even love. So why? Why.. Does my heart hurt each time I see the memory replaying in my head..?

I suddenly felt a chill go down my spine and rubbed my arm. I looked at the sky. "Oh... The sky's dark... It's gonna rain..." I sighed and turned back, only to bump into someone's chest.

"Ah! I'm sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going." I apologised and took a few steps back. The smell of the cologne was familiar. I look up, only to find the one and only Kim Jong In staring down at me. I awkwardly looked down and bowed. I tried to get past him but he just kept blocking my way.

"Excuse me sir would you let me pass?" I politely asked because I was getting a little anxious and edgy. I didn't like the fact that he's standing in front of me.

"Are you acting like you don't know me now?" He asked, voice low and husky. I looked up at his face, his eyes, his nose, his lips. I swallowed the temptation.

"I don't know anything you're talking about." I was started to get desperate to escape from this situation because I wasn't liking it one bit.

You see, something happened the day I was admitted to the hospital...

No one's POV

"Her body is exhausted. We removed the bullet easily as it wasn't deep in. She lost a lot of blood before the surgery so she needs lots and lots of rest to recover. She can be discharged after the wound recovers. She will have some problems moving her left shoulder. You may visit her." The doctor told Kai and bowed before leaving. EXO was also waiting to go and see you.

"What did the doctor say? Is she alright? Can we see her?" Chen asked. Kai simply nodded before entering the room you were at.

You were just lying on the bed, unconcious after the successful surgery to remove the bullet.

"Aigoo... She's always making us worry about her." Suho sighed.

"What do you mean?" Kai asked, completely unaware.

"She was always asking about you on days you were apparently not home and wasn't taking care of herself. Now she's living on her own. You didn't know that either did you? You were always out with some random girls. Then were captured by that crazy fan of yours, and she got shot." Kris explained.

Kai just looked at you apologetically. He felt like he owed you a lot.

Like the lost time...

"You got her to sign the contract to break off the engagement right?" Chen blurted out.

"Yes. She signed it in front of me when I gave it to her while she was doing her homework in school. I gave it to my mom to settle it." Kai sighed as he continued to stare at your face.

'You looked so much more relax and peaceful here now then when you're with me...' Kai thought.

"Well, we better get going. It's pretty late." Lay patted Kai's shoulders and whispered "I know you love her." and they all left.

An hour later, Minjung woke up. She was feeling pain in her left shoulder. She looked around and spotted Kai looking at her with concern.

"Are you awake? I'll get the doctor." Kai was about to stand up when she reached out and grabbed his wrist, stopping him. She slowly shook her head. He sat back down and sighed.

"Why... Why do you even care about a jerk like me..?" Kai asked.

"B-because I liked you." The moment she said that statement, Kai bent down and gave her a kiss. It lasted for a few seconds.

"Love me now. Forget the past and come to me." Kai pleaded.

"I-I can't." Minjung whispered.

"W-why not?" Kai was upset.

"I-I just c-can't.. Just leave. I want to be alone." She looked away, tears in her eyes. She then felt him getting up and leaving the room.

And the tears finally escaped after the memory of him and Sam appeared in her mind.

"You do know who I am right? So why are you treating me like a stranger?" He asked.

"Just let me past!!" I shouted a little too loudly.

"Not until you tell me why are you acting like this!!" He shouted back. I took a step back from shock.

"No. I can't and never will." I angrily pushed him aside and ran.

"YAH PARK MIN JUNG!" He chased after me. I continue running until I reach the apartment. I quickly typed in the code and opened the gates before hastily shutting it close. Kai appeared in front of me.

"Minjung..." He pleaded.

"Go away." I turned around and took the lift up, not even sparing him a glance.

God, just let me forget him...
