 CHAPTER FOUR:

   ********
The sun blisters down creating the pavement to have heat waves.

I wait in line for five minutes before getting a cold bottle of water. I sit at an empty table and chug the cold beverage. Within a few seconds, the bottle is empty.

I look around and don't see as many people on the boardwalk like usual…probably from the intense heat. I notice a group of girls at the end of the boardwalk.
I roll my eyes and hope they don't come down here… its Talia and her little minions.
I haven't seen them since the party last week.
…matter of fact, I haven't spoke to Jasmine either. I hope she's okay, I'll have to call her later.

I wipe my sweaty face with a napkin, then get up to throw my trash away.

"You better get it or you know what will happen." I hear an extremely angry voice coming a few feet away. I look over and don't see anyone, they must be beside the shack.
I hear a loud noise like someone hit something… or slammed someone into something.
  I freeze.

My heart races as I realize there's probably a fight. I start to walk away, very quickly. I make it down to the Ferris wheel and sit on a bench across from it.

My body aches from running the beach.
I hate being out all the time, but I have to avoid my parents as much as I can until these bruises fully heal. I rub my hand over it, it's not as sore or as noticeably visible as before, thank goodness.
"Jade?" I look up and slightly smile at who I see.

"Hey Zayn. What are you doing here?" I ask, not sure what to say.
"Just doing some business." He smiles weakly. "I gotta go." He says looking back.
"Oh, okay. See you later." I say not trying to sound disappointed.

As he walks away he pulls his hand out of his pocket and holds it. For a brief second, it looks like blood is on it.

       ******

Before I step inside, I throw on my hoodie that covers a part of my neck. I fluff it up a bit so it covers more and then go inside. No one even notices me, so really it was a waste of time.

I change into sweats and then plop onto my bed. Just as I become comfortable my phone vibrates. I reach over and get it and see it's from Jasmine:
"Hey! I haven't seen u in forever! lets hang this weekend at a beach bonfire?"
My stomach becomes queasy at the thought.

I miss hanging out with her… but last time… that will forever be a nightmare.

I reply: "hey(: i know, right? but I'm not sure if I want to go…"
  Within seconds she replies back:
"Its not a party. Only a few people. Plus I heard Zayn will be there(;"

My face burns red. I cant believe everyone knows I like him.
That used to be something I kept to myself, no thanks to Talia. I guess its gotten around.

As questionable as her little get together sounds, I really just want to see Zayn again... I just cant pass it up, so I agree to go.

     ********
I pick out an outfit to wear, only to throw it on the floor to find another one. Actually, screw this.
I'm just going to wear something simple… it's the beach for God's sake.

I squeeze on my hot pink bikini and throw a pair of high waisted cut off shorts.
I let my long brown hair down, leaving it in the state its already in. I throw mascara and lip gloss on…it's going to be too dark to actually see my makeup, so I don't try.

Jasmine calls, telling me to meet her outside. I throw on an old pair of grey converses and sneak out the window.
Within ten minutes we get to the boardwalk parking lot.

We walk up to the beach and there's a huge bonfire with a massive crowd of people.
I look at Jasmine, "Just a few?" I give her a look and she just shrugs it off.
"Okay, so I exaggerated a little." She laughs as she grabs my hand and makes me run with her.

We push through a crowd of people and sit on a log beside the massive fire.
"Beer?" An older guy approaches us with three beers in his hands.
"Yeah." We both say at once. She immediately looks at me confused. I never drink.
"What?" I ask innocently, we both start laughing. "Thanks." I say as he hands it to us.

"Cheers!" He holds his drink up and we follow.
I put the unfamiliar drink to my lips and take a small sip. I feel it immediately burning my throat. I'm barely able to swallow it, but I do and then just put the drink down.
"That's what I figured" She giggles as she watches me, then takes a chug herself.
  I shrug, "I tried."

She stops drinking as she makes eye contact with someone. I try to look at who she's looking at, but I see too many faces.
She puts her drink down, "I'll be right back." Before I can say anything, she disappears into the crowd. Son of a bitch! Again? …seriously?

I sigh angrily as I look around at the people. I see a couple people making out, but most of them are just being weird from being drunk or talking.
I scan the crowd and see the back of a painfully familiar body.

My heart races and goose bumps form.
Carlito.
I should've known this would happen.

I immediately get up and try looking for Jasmine, keeping my guard up in case I see Carlito again.
I reach for my phone to call her and realize that I left it at home. I sigh in frustration.
I walk in the direction she went in and search for a good fifteen minutes.

I cant find her anywhere. This is getting so old!

There's no way she's by the bonfire. I look down the beach and see a huge bathroom building not to far. She probably meet a guy there.
I swear to God I'm never going anywhere with her again.
This is ridiculous, I should've known better.

After a few minutes, I make it to the building. I walk up the ramp and go into the bathroom. I open the door and its completely pitch black.
"Jas?" My voice echoes off the wall.
I get no reply and look in the men's, not in there either.
I rub my hand through my hair in frustration, becoming extremely pissed.

I walk back down the ramp and hear faint bickering.
"Jasmine?" I say her name weakly and walk around the back, where the noise is coming from.

As I turn the corner, I see two people at the other side of the building.
"You had a week." I see a guy holding another guy against the wall.

Within seconds, the moon comes out from the clouds illuminating some more light. As the light hits their body, my heart drops as I see Zayn.

All of a sudden, Zayn's fist smashes into the other guy's face. I instantly gasp as a reaction, I cover my mouth quickly afraid that they heard me.
Zayn's fist continuously pounds into his face repeatedly and harder each time. I keep my mouth covered and chills instantly shoot down my spine.
The other guy falls on the ground and I see Zayn pull something out of his pocket.

The light reflects off the shiny sharp piece of metal, and my eyes widen and get teary as a reaction.

I stand there and watch him stab the stranger repeatedly.
"Oh my God!" I cry out desperately and shocked, my body shaking.
He immediately stops and stands up.
His hand clutched to the knife and he stands there staring at me.

"Oh, shit." I say under my breath, beyond scared.

The clouds hover over the moon, darkening everything making it unable to see him. My heart beats so fast, its about to pound through my chest.
In complete and sheer panic I take off into the darkness.
