CHAPTER NINETEEN:

My heart is relived at the sight of him, completely not expecting to see him at all.

"Who the fuck are you?" Kyle says as he spins around and sees him.

"It doesn't matter. Come on Jade, let's go." Zayn keeps his cool, but his stare is intense.

"You're not going anywhere." Kyle looks back at me, coming towards me.
"I said to leave her alone." Zayn's voice becomes demanding as he loses his patience.

"Or what?" Kyle chuckles to himself as he continues to get closer, ignoring Zayn.

I hear a noise and me and Kyle look back at Zayn who is now holding a knife, making it very exposed. He doesn't even have to say anything, the weapon speaks for him.

"Okay, okay." Kyle holds up his hands and backs up to the side, finally giving in.

I stand up and quickly make my way over to him, not looking once at Kyle. Zayn grabs my hand with his free hand and walks me back to the sidewalk.

We walk a few stores down and he puts the knife back in his pocket. I look back and see that Kyle is out of sight.
  Feeling safe, I stop walking.

Zayn looks at me, and without hesitation I wrap my arms around him and bury my face in the crock of his neck. I hold on tight and can feel his arms wrap around me.

"Thank you." I whisper against his skin. He doesn't say anything, but responds by kissing the top of my head.

After a few moments of just embracing him, I pull away and we leave... heading towards the beach.

We sit in the sand, by the edge of the water. The sound of waves breaking softly and children playing in the distance fills the air.
We sit there for a few short moments before I break the silence, "I thought you were mad at me."
I keep my stare on the ocean.

"I was." He replies, keeping it short. A few waves break and then he continues, "I just don't want to see you get hurt. Last night could've turned out very different."

"But it didn't." I snap before he can say anything else.

I look at him and can see the sun reflect in his eyes, "I just don't understand. One minute you're making me promise I can handle everything... and the next you're yelling at me because I am handling it." I look away.
He doesn't say anything, because he knows that I'm right.

"I want to be a part of your world, I've already proven myself... why can't you just accept it?" I look back at him, and now he's looking away.

"For a while, can we just keep you and what I do separate? I thought I wanted you to be there with me... but I'm the one that can't handle it. I couldn't handle if something was to happen to you... again."
His eyes look over at me...
Something about the way he's looking at me, is making me weak.

"Okay." I agree quietly, my heart melted at his words.

I look back down and start thinking about last night, "Do you think anyone will find out it was us? I mean, we just left them there dead in the alley." I say unintentionally changing the subject.

"Nah, we're good." He leans back, soaking the sun into his skin. "That part of town is hobo central. People die there everyday, no one cares or questions it. That's why everything happens there, because you can get away with it."

He looks around at the scenery and stops at the strip, not too far away.
"Who was that guy?" He asks with narrow eyes.

"Kyle." I roll my eyes slightly annoyed, "He's my mom's new boyfriend, apparently." My mind drifts off as I replay last night and this morning... I can feel my mood completely changing.
