Chapter Fifteen:

We walk in and he pulls out a chair for me to sit in.

"I'll go order our coffees." He pushes me close to the table.

"Thanks, but I don't exactly drink…" He walks off ignoring me, before I can even finish. I sit there kind of annoyed at how much of an ass he is.

His personality is so weird. He's nice to invite me, but is slick rude about it. I don't know, I guess it's just the way he is.

Within a good few minutes, he comes back with two coffees.

"Here." He sits down and places one in front of me.

"Thanks." I say trying to sound convincing.

He takes a sip from his cup, and trying not to be rude, I do the same.

The bitter drink hits my taste buds and I instantly make a face.

Once I realize what I was doing, I quickly try to make my face normal and put the drink down. I look up at Louis and he looks over at me, barely missing my little episode. I give him a weak smile and just sit there awkwardly.

"Are you ready for school" I try to start a conversation, like Zayn did earlier. I've never talked to him before, so I tried to talk about the only thing we have in common.

"I guess." He puts his drink down and studies me, "You look a little different than I remember seeing you." He says with his eyes continuing to stare. "You're not wearing makeup." He states.

"You look so much better without it. I remember a couple of the boys would make fun of you and that one girl you hang around with, and called you guys cake face." He chuckles lightly to himself.

"Okay, well thanks for the drink. I have to go now." I stand up, my attitude as bitter as the coffee.

I don't even know why I agreed to this, I don't even know him… but I'm not just going to sit here and be treated like this.

I walk out and he grabs me to stop me. I turn around and he looks at me for a second and then starts talking, "I didn't mean to offend you." He tries to defend himself.

"Well, you did. And like I said, I have a boyfriend. So, bye." I yank my arm away from him and leave, completely regretting that I went with him to begin with.

As I rush out the door, I see Zayn come out from beside the shack.

  Perfect timing.

I look both ways, then quickly cross the street making my way as fast as I can towards him.

"Hey, sorry it took so long. We can do something to make it up to you." I look back across the street and see that Louis has disappeared.

I look back at Zayn and he grabs my hand and laces our fingers together.

"Sounds good." I say as he walks me down the strip.

     ******

"Do you want to come in?" I ask him as he leans against the door. I can see him make a face, "Their working late." I say with a smile as I open the door.

  He follows me inside.

We walk into my room and I immediately start stripping off my clothes and change into some vs sweats. "I'm so exhausted from today." I say as I plop down on the bed beside him.

He wraps his arm around my waist, pulling me against his body. His kisses my forehead just before I rest it on his chest.

I look up at him and he's staring back. His long lashes perfectly frame his eyes and flutters every time he blinks.

As my body lays next to his, his scent becomes strong. I run my fingers along the side of his torso, tracing little patterns on his tight tank top. At the same time, he starts to play with the ends of my hair.

The calmness of it all, eventually makes me fall asleep in his arms.

I wake up to yelling.

I immediately open my eyes and see Zayn underneath me. I push off of his body and sit up. In the process, I wake him up.

I get out of bed and notice the window is black from the night fall. I didn't realize how long we've been asleep.

I get up and walk in the living room and can hear my mom yelling over the phone. She sees me and then hangs up. She breathes hard as she stares at me angrily.

She takes a few deep breathes and softens her face, but her eyes are filled with hurt. "What's wrong?" I ask sitting down across from her.

"It's nothing." She avoids my question like earlier.

"Is everything okay? Should I call Mark and ask him to come home?" I ask knowing Mark is the only person to keep her sane. "

Mark's not coming home." She snaps as she gets up, "He doesn't live here anymore." I can see the anger start to build up.

"What are you talking about?" I blurt out shocked and very confused.

"I'm done with the conversation." She ends the conversation and storms off to her room. I take a moment to sit and process the information.

She's been with Mark for nineteen years, I don't understand what could've went wrong.

After a few minutes of wondering thoughts, I remember Zayn is still in my room so I push away my feelings.

I get up and walk into my room, and see that it's empty.

Disappointment hits me as I see the curtains moving with the wind.

I go to them and shut the open window, wishing that he didn't leave.

I sit down at the edge of my bed and sigh from frustration at everything that's going on.

As I bury my face in my hands, I notice a note that's on the floor underneath me. I look at his sloppy hand writing that reads, "meet me at the pier tomorrow night at ten."

    ******

I throw on a tight black dress, not wanting to over do it but yet not being too casual. I curl my hair in loose waves and apply my usual full face makeup.

I walk out in the living room and see my mom on the couch.

She just got off work and is already in her pajamas. Her hair is a mess, makeup smeared, and half a bottle of wine already drunk. My heart aches at her sadness, I've literally never seen her like that.

As much as I want her to go out or talk about it, I know I just need to let her do her own thing.

"I'm um, going to go out." I say, for some reason wanting to be honest for once.

She moves her hand in a shooing motion towards the door. Its so weird how she went from grounding me and being angry to not caring.

I don't argue and as bad as it sounds, I take advantage of the situation.

Normally, she would never allow me going out at night.

As I make my way out the door, I sneak her keys off the table and quickly make my way out.

I get inside her car and turn it on. I make my way towards the beach, driving extra careful since I don't exactly have a license.

I make it without getting pulled over and feel at ease once I stop the car. I start to walk the pier and can see Zayn standing at the end of it.
