Whitestar paced back and forth in her den while Onestar watched her. "Onestar. We need to tell our deputies to double the patrols. We need more prey to keep our strength for dealing with those creatures and before the snow falls for leaf-bare." She told him in a serious tone.
"But we send our patrols the usual time of day remember? A dawn patrol, a sunhigh patrol, and both of our moonhigh patrols just returned when the clawmoon was full." Onestar pointed out.
"I am aware of that," She told him. "But, those creatures could kill more cats which could cause more of a problem."
"You have a point Whitestar. I'm going to tell Feralstorm to bring a patrol. But I have to ask, what threat are we dealing with?" Onestar meowed. Whitestar opened her mouth, but nothing came. Do I myself not know of our own dilemma?
"I know what you're dealing with." An elderly voice rasped.
The two clan leaders turned to see Dustytail standing outside the entrance to the leader's den. "What is it?" They meowed at the same time.
"Wolves of course." The tom meowed in reply.
"Mouse-brain! How could I not know that?!" Onestar yowled to himself aloud.
"Wolves?" Whitestar echoed, her ears pricking.
"I remember when they used to pick off the horseplace Twoleg's creatures worser than the foxes." The mottled tan tom meowed.
Onestar and Whitestar looked at each other then at Dustytail. "We thank you Dustytail." The white and ginger tom meowed appreciatively.
"Not a problem." The tom meowed as he padded back to the elders den. Whitestar nodded her head. "Now that we know our problem, we must solve it." She meowed.

The following day, the leaders sent out their patrols. Whitestar's, which consisted of Dawnreed, Starshine, her apprentice Thistlepaw, Windfur, her apprentice Daisypaw, Flintclaw, and Grayfur along with Onestar's of Feralstorm, Lizardstep, his apprentice Badgerpaw, Liontail, Larkstep, Fallentooth, and Ravenwing.
"Keep close you lot." Dawnreed meowed to them over her shoulder as she walked leading the way through the forest.
Flintclaw looked composed but his eyes looked weary as he looked around for any dangers. Grayfur who was next to him kept his eyes forward. Ravenwing's eyes looked as if they would never stop moving as he looked around in all directions of the territory for any wolves since the leaders told them about it.
"Stay close and remember at the sniff of danger, you stand your ground.." Starshine whispered to Thistlepaw. Feralstorm parted his jaws to taste the air. "The scent is strong. Stay together." He meowed to his patrol. With this they all continued forward. Daisypaw shivered in what her mentor Windfur knew was fear.
A clear and distinct howl sounded. A big wolf stepped out from the dark of trees. Blood on it's muzzle. But it seemed oblivious to the clan cats. It sniffed the air then gave another howling noise.
Larkstep heard a fearful yowl. "That's a cat in trouble!" She meowed. Fallentooth followed Larkstep. It was a pale orange she-cat pinned by a wolf while another orange cat was seen just near fighting with all of her strength, but it seemed to not phase the creature. Fallentooth growled and lunged at the wolf. The creature whipped it's head to the reddish brown tom. Big mistake. Fallentooth slashed its muzzle down deep. The creature growled, swiping its big paw downward.
Fallentooth dodged it, but got a small cut on his back. The wolf snarled. Suddenly, two voices yowled, "WolfClan! ViperClan! Attack!!"
It was Dawnreed and Feralstorm bounding forward with the rest of the patrol. The wolf yelped and growled running off.
"Yeah you better run!" Thistlepaw spat as it fled away.
The pale orange she-cat laid still in not only fear but pain.
"Guys! Come look! It's still alive!" Larkestep called as she stood beside the pale orange cat.
"I'm not an it." The she-cat hissed through gritted teeth.
"My apologies." She mewed to the cat. AshClan scent suddenly hung in the air more fresh than usual. Then, Foxstar and a patrol bounded towards all of the cats.
