Chapter 29

Azalea knocked out a guard.
He fell to the ground, unconscious.

She tossed her cloak hood over her head to hide her face and her hair.

Then she quickly pressed her hand against the entrance pad and opened the cell door.

"Brenan, you need to get out of here. I already have the escape pod ready, but you have to go", she said determinedly as she helped up Feornae and young Piflin.

Feornae followed her instructions without hesitation.

Brenan grabbed Azalea's wrist.
"I'm not leaving you here!"

Azalea kept her head down,  determined not to let him see her face.

What the Galra did to her.

"I can't leave, Brenan. Marina is still here. Escape while you can!"

Brenan's crystal blue eyes filled with tears.
"I cannot just leave you behind. You are mine. We are supposed to get through this together. Let me stay, and I can help you find your sister. But.... I can't just leave you!"

Azalea choked back a sob. Tears were now streaming freely down her face.

"Brenan..."

"Please, Azalea", he pleaded, "At least let me see your face before I go..."

Azalea clenched her fists.

"I'm sorry, Brenan."

She knocked him out with a single punch to the jaw, and carried him to the escape pod.

And she sadly watched as a pod took her only friend away.

"Azalea.... come home sis!", Marina taunted.

Azalea slammed her hand against the wall, openly sobbing, grateful that no one was around to see her like this.

"Go away, Marina..", Azalea choked.

"But I want to see you again, sis. Come back to the ship!"

"You're dead!", Azalea cried out, "You're nothing more than a haunting voice now! I killed you, remember? Go away!"

"Don't be such a killjoy, sis. I'm still here. Inside your head. In the monster that you are."

"Stop it!!", she screamed. Azalea fell to her knees, her body racked with sobs, and she was clawing at her head.

"Please leave me alone Marina!"

"Nightmare....", the male voice said again, "Come home to us. We miss you!"

"Please return", an unfamiliar female said.

"No...", Azalea whimpered, "I won't go back to that place."

"Azalea..."

"Nightmare...."

"Come home, nightmare...."
