Sometimes walking through corridors is worst thing. Students were leaving their classes as lectures just got over. My phone beeped, gaining my attention. It was a message from Sam. As I opened the message, I bumped into someone and my phone fell onto the floor.
"Sorry, gorgeous. "A voice said. The way he said gorgeous, brought only a person to my mind. Yash. I saw him pick up my phone. He handed the phone with one of his gorgeous smiles.
" Thank you! " I said." You are welcome, my lady! "he said bowing, causing me to laugh. He cracks a smile too. As we walk together, I ask him how he's been. It's long since we have talked and I haven't seen him for like approx a month. Except seeing him to and fro in the corridors. By the way, that is the same time since my dinner date with Manav.
" You know me. I'm all good. You say? "He said, with one of his drop dead gorgeous smiles.
" Same. "I said and silence took over before he broke it," So, is it true? " I frowned. What is he talking about?
" You and Manav.. "he trailed off.
I chuckled and nodded. FYI, the college knows about it and whole credit goes to Priya because she's the BBC of this college. I look at Yash who's scratching his day old stubble. He seemed to be thinking over something. I have never seen him silent and in other words, not joking.
" You alright? "I ask. He barely nods. Before, he could continue, my phone rings and it's... Sam. He looks at me, nods and leaves, without saying any word. Weird, I have never seen Yash so quiet and it irks me. The phone rings again and brings my attention back.
" Hey, bitch! "His loud sexy voice shouts through my phone.
" Hey! "I greet him back.
" You know what? "
" What ? "I ask him, curious.
" I'm in town. "He screams through the phone and I jump up in happiness.
" You serious? "
" Yea, babe. "
" I want to meet you. "I scream back. I hear him laugh.
"I knew it so I'm outside."
"I'm coming. "I shout, ending the call.
I have been dying to meet him. And, here he is. I quickly jog through the busy corridor and out of campus. There I see him, stepping out of his black BMW SUV, wearing a mustard yellow full sleeve striped t-shirt pushed up till elbows. A pair of aviators perched on his nose. He looked just the usual Sam - fantastic and perfect."Sammy .... "I squeal like little girl, running towards him. He laughed and screamed back my name. I hugged him hard but the force didn't stagger him. He's anchor of my life. Back when there were troubles on my life, he was my anchor keeping my ship from floating far away, in deep dark seas. Everyone has troubles and I had fair share of mine and in those times, Sam and Myria were my anchors. His laugh tumbled in my ears as he lifted me off ground, squeezing the life out of me.
Putting me back down, he greeted me with his usual, "Hey, bitch!" and I greeted him with "Hey back, douchebag!". As we settled down, I realized that people had been watching us. Not that I care but... I can still see some of them scrunching their nose at our PDA. Again, I don't care.
We settled in his car as he drove car out of college campus."So, what brought you here? "I asked since he was in bangalore.
" A friend. And, Dad had sent me here for checking on the new property he's buying. "He replied, glancing at me briefly.
" Right, and why am I knowing this now? " I meant about his arrival in city.
" It was more of an semi - planned event. I was thinking of coming here for my friend when dad informed me that I have to. I didn't want to give you false hope of coming here because if I cancelled then making up for it to you would be hard. Like, real hard. "He laughed.
" That would be. "I nodded, smiling slightly thinking what would be his innovative way of paying back. Sam had always been innovative, comparing to all of us. So, his ideas of paying back would also have been innovative, like many others.
" Where are we going now? "
" Our hangout. "He said. That was J'Bees, a donut Cafe. They made best donuts in the city. Atleast according to Sam and me. There was silence in the car expect the music from his car stereo. And, the drumming of his fingers against the wheel. Usually, by now, he would be either blabbering or singing the song loudly, in jovial mood but today he was so silent. It was almost tangible. It was bothering me.
Today, everyone was off. Yash... He seemed so quiet, which is against his very nature and now, Sam. What is it with everyone? I twirled the loose end of hair thinking about Yash and his weird behavior. I decided that I would ask him. And I, decided the same for Sam. Turning, I voiced it out, straight and blunt, "What's up with you? Why are you so silent, huh?"
He looked at me, sighed, before saying, "We are here. Let's talk inside."
He walked ahead as I followed him to J'bee's. It was pretty chic and simple. The decor was on peppy colors. That very thing would have brightened my mood but I was too worried. I took up a table while he went to order. He knew my favourite flavour to order because whenever we came here we always would order the same.
As he sat across me, I noticed he seemed worried, no, more like his mind was preoccupied.
"Sammy... "I called, bringing his attention to me.
He sighed visibly before saying," I... Need to tell you something. "I nodded. He closed his eyes briefly and opened them, sighing for umpteenth time, before saying a 'Never mind.'" Sam.. Putting away a talk won't help. You know that. Just talk to me. I can help you. "
" J.. I know you can help me but I can't seem myself to say it. I'm just... "He trailed off.
" Out of words? "He nodded with a brief smile.
" See, I know you. Tell me. "I cooed, trying to convince him.
" Okay, so this is all mess. I don't think you would get a shit but if you do, you're a god and if you don't, don't ask me to explain or repeat. "I nodded.
But he could continue, our donuts arrived. They were so appealing that all ideas of helping Sam flew out of my mind. I know that is selfish but... I'm a foodie and there is no denying it. My donut was a flower shaped whose every inch is covered in chocolate. I know , I know, so many calories but it's okay sometimes. This better not reach Priya because then she's going to be all 'Diet Queen ' lecturing me on calories. My donut is called 'Black twirl' whilst his was called 'Choco sprinkle delight'. I looked at him and he was licking his lip, ready to attack his poor donut.
"Let's eat first. We can talk later "He said and I laughed, because this is the Sam I knew.
I was still munching at my first donut and he had finished his second. I couldn't even finish my first one. This are called side - effects of dieting where when you have proper food, you can't stomach it.
"If you aren't planning on finished that then pass it to me. "
" No. "I pulled my plate protectively. He laughed at my gesture. Smiling, I said," I missed that. "
" Don't grow all sappy on me. "He mumbled. I laughed, enjoying his embarrassment. Though, I did mean it.
