Those Silly Days

Chapter 42

I stood in front of the room, tapping my pen against the writing pad. I looked at the clock again, still 5 more minutes before I go into the room.

"J, Calm down! You will be fine ! " Manav said ,walking over and grabbing my hand in his. The action caused my stomach to flutter. I gave him a nervous smile.

"Yeah ! We ran through the whole course. You will crack this tough nut ! " Tanisha said ,giving me a wink. I don't know whether I should be agreeing with her. Economics has never been my friend and i don't think that it will be this time. My phone pinged. From the corner of my eye, I saw a name that always made me happy. Yash.

'All the best , gorgeous ! You will kick eco in his ass! 😂'

I laughed at his text and shook my head. He always had perfect timing.

I quickly texted him back with a thank you. The door in front of us swing open and a proxy called in me. It was early morning and the classes that were conducted right now were of elective subjects which weren't on regular basis. So ,I was the only one in the room besides the proxy.

I turned around to see a confident Myria, assuring Manav and helpful Tanisha. I sighed as I took my seat and the door closed.

Taking a deep breath , I faced my terror.

Throughout the day, my mind kept wondering back to test. I didn't do exceptionally well. I performed on the belt of average. Though, I wasn't expecting a miracle to happen.

I looked at my watch. Still half an hour to go. I would get my result at the end of the day and that was still half an hour away.

I felt a light tap on my hand ,pulling me back to reality. I saw Myria tapping a piece of paper on the desk. I unfolded the small chit and read : WILL YOU STOP THINKING ABOUT THE RESULT? CALM DOWN!

She wrote the whole thing in caps. I rolled my eyes at her. She snatched the paper back and wrote before sliding the paper back at me.

'DON'T roll your eyes at me. You are thinking about that. You will get 70. So, just chill ! ' ,The chit read.

I tore another piece of paper from my book since Myria had written on both the sides of the chit.

'Oh yeah ! Eco is my boyfriend and it will give me 100 on 100 ? Definately!' I wrote back sarcastically.

'Ooo! I didnt know you were that good that Manav would give full on.' She didn't forget to add a sticky tongue emoji.

'Get that brain out of gutter and use it for studies! ' I wrote ,sliding the chit back.

'You took it the wrong way. 'Myria said,sticking her tongue out. In real.

"Is there anything we should know , Myria ?" The professor called out.

"Nothing that would interest your attention." Myria retorted. The class laughed.

"But certainly , it did grab yours !" He replied,catching Myria in her own game.

He went on,"So, what is it ? "

He narrowed his eyes when Myria didn't answer. Just at the moment, a peon appeared and whispered something his ears.

"Jiya, the Dean is calling you. Head to his office, please. " He said  and my heart hammered hard in my chest. I knew what it was for. I caught Manav's eye and he gave me a dazzling smile and reassuring nod. Myria just winked at me. I rolled my eyes at her. Grabbing my things quickly, I made an exit.

As soon as I arrived at his office, i was told to wait outside and then I was called. And since then , I have been sitting in front of his secretary's desk. I looked at my watch and realised that I have been sitting here for almost 15 minutes.

I looked out of the glass section in dark wooden door and my eyes caught Myria' s sea green t shirt. I breathed in relief to see her. Few seconds later, I saw Manav peeking in. He caught my glance and gave me a smile mouthing 'everything will be fine ! '

I nodded.  I saw the secretary shuffling through the files and I think ,she might have lost my result. That is the reason for the delay and that was a fucking fine reason. I groaned internally.

The next 5 minutes were excruciating slow. The college fell silent. It has been 10 minutes or so since classes were done with. Most of the students left this place as soon as they can. The only people that were left included the faculties and the some students. Some of them were athletes and would be on the ground and others were nerds and would be in the library which was open until 6 in the evening.

I was about to ask her about my result when she exclaimed,"Aha! There it is !"

She pulled out two copies from a brown file and walked over,handing me one. I felt my hand tremble when I took the paper. I bit my lip and glanced at the digits. I gasped at the paper and looked at the name tag. This is my result.

"Fuck!" I cursed under my breath still looking at the digits on the paper. I heard a light cough ,making me realise. I apologised quickly and walked out.

"So,what is it ?" Came a chaos of questions as the three of them stood surrounding me. I took a pause,looking at their faces to make a dramatic effect when Myria snatched the paper from my hand and looked at it.

"Myria, you ruined my dramatic pause. " I said,scowling.

All she did was tackle me into a hard hug shouting," You passed! You fucking did it ! " I laughed and hugged her back. Upon hearing that, Manav and Tanisha joined in  for a hug.

"Guys, I will fall from the weight. Stop squishing me !" I managed to say. They laughed and pulled away. Just then my eyes fell onto him. I smiled and practically ran into his arms shouting,"Yash, I did it ! I got above 70. Yes !! "

I heard his laughter as he tackled me into his arms.

"Congratulations, gorgeous ! I knew you would do this." He said. I pulled away and saw his mega watt smile, making my stomach drop deep down.

"It's time to party ! " I shouted, pulling his hand.

"Guys, let's go and party! I haven't done that in ages ! " I grumbled but happily.

"It's only a week , J. But I'm not complaining. Let's go ! " Myria said.

"Let's go then !" I said.

"Gorgeous, I can't! " Yash said.

"Not another excuse, Yash. It got 73 IN ECONOMICS. I never get that ! C'mon, you know how much that 73 means to me, don't you?" I said, pouting.

He shuffled on his feet before muttering a small fine. I was elated at that also.

As Myria and i walked ahead, I heard her lean in and whisper in my ear," So, Yash knows everything?"

"Obviously ! " I chuckle, giving Myria a weird look.

"Even that you need to get 70 to appear for your scholarship ?" She asks.

I nod and reply," And how much that scholarship means to me !"

I saw a slight surprise in her eyes. Nobody but Sam and Myria knew my real reason for scholarships. I don't blame Myria if she's surprised that Yash knows a tip of that iceberg because apparently Manav doesn't know that iceberg yet.

I wink and turn to look at others,"  IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE ! "
