Chat took in a deep breath, "My Lady, there's something I have to tell you also."
Ladybug's face turned ghastly, she was afraid of what words would fall from his lips. A comforting smile appeared on his face but it was unclear if he was aiming the comfort at her or himself. Chat could sense she was afraid, after all, he did have heightened senses. He smiled down at their joined hands. He felt as if this would be the last time they would be this close. He wanted to keep his secret confidential for as long as he could because once he told her he knew moments like this would be ripped away from him. He would miss this. He would miss her.
"Is everything alright?" She asked quickly, her breathing quickening as their conversation took an unexpected turn.
"I hope it'll be," he smiled at her as he reminisced through thoughts of everything they'd been through together as partners, friends and more.
"What do you mean? Are you okay?" She asked, concern now washing over her face as she tightened her grip on his hands as her worry consumed her.
"Ladybug," he breathed, looking down upon his longtime crush and friend, "I-I don't even know how to say it out loud," he chuckled.
Ladybug's eyes darted around his face as she looked for answers she wouldn't be able to obtain until he divulged his secret with her. His face never revealed anything to her, he had walls to protect himself and, no matter how hard she studied his face, she would never be able to predict the words he later uttered.
"I'm here for you, Chat," she found herself saying as she enveloped him in a tight and comforting hug.
He was shocked at first, he rarely received hugs. But his lady's hugs were always so special to him.
He found the words slipping out of his mouth as he fell deep into her embrace, "I know who you are."
She froze in his arms, he couldn't know. There was no way of him knowing. He couldn't possibly know, she was always so cautious of what she said and did.
"My Lady?" He whispered with a pained tone in his voice, he could feel himself losing her piece by piece.
She quickly unravelled herself from his comforting embrace and took a few steps away from him, "you know who I am? How?"
Her voice wasn't full of anger or sadness but it was full of pain and hurt. He couldn't form words to explain any of this to her, tears welled in his eyes at the thought of losing her.
Ladybug had resulted to pacing anxiously with her hands tangled in her hair, she retraced every moment of contact with him and tried to think of where she'd messed up. Nothing came to mind.
"I guess you're really disappointed then," she chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.
Chat Noir stopped her pacing by gently grasping her shoulders and turning her so their eyes met, "not at all, Bugaboo. You're still the same amazing and incredible girl I fell in love with."
He finally found his voice and his words caused her to flush violently. Her wide eyes welled with tears of joy and she couldn't tear her eyes away from his intoxicating green ones. The tears fell from her cheeks but her smile never wavered. Chat subconsciously began wiping away her tears with his clawed hands.
