"Have you been getting any sleep?" Kate's voice asked through the phone, sounding concerned.
"Some," Jackie answered. She was still holed up in the hospital room with Mary Kate. It was Day Three of the Invictus Games, just two more to go. Mary Kate's surgery had been scheduled for the next day- the day before the closing ceremony. "She's been feeling much better, we've just got to prepare her for the surgery tomorrow morning."
"Thank god she's feeling better, my heart was breaking for her," Kate said. "George and I colored her some cards for when she finally comes home."
Jackie smiled. "How sweet." She paused. "Have you talked to Harry?"
Kate's voice sounded confused. "I called him yesterday to tell him I was thinking about him. Why?"
Jackie sighed. Harry had been stopping over about twice a day, once before and after the Games to visit. Their time together was tense and awkward, both Jackie and Harry were stressed and agitated.
"We haven't been getting along very well, it's nothing serious, I just don't really feel supported right now, I suppose," Jackie admitted. She wished Kate was there in person to give her reassurance, but Jackie's sister in law was still resting at Kensington Palace, getting over her acute morning sickness.
"I'm sure he doesn't mean anything by it, you're both just very preoccupied," Kate said. "If the Games weren't going on right now I'm sure he'd be there 24/7."
"I'm sure he would be too, but that's not the point. She's getting put under tomorrow, that's very serious for a child her age." Jackie checked to make sure Mary Kate was still sleeping. She didn't like talking about serious things in front of her daughter, even though she couldn't understand. "And when he is here, he's on his phone. I wish he could just give us half an hour of undivided attention."
Jackie could practically see Kate's worried frown. "I'm really sorry, Jackie, you're going through a lot."
"I know, I know. I suppose it's normal to be stressed at a time like this."
"Well don't get too worked up, you've got two others to worry about," Kate reminded. Jackie smiled. With all the drama going on, she'd hardly had time to think about her little twins. "Please let me know if there's anything William or I can do."
"I will, thank you." Jackie smiled. "Get some rest."
Jackie hung up her phone. It was just past dinnertime and Mary Kate had fallen asleep, so Jackie had a few minutes to herself. She decided to catch up on the events of the day at the Games. She really did want to smooth things over with Harry, so she wanted to show her full support.
Jackie searched 'Invictus Games' in the search engine, waiting a moment for the results to come up. The first article immediately caught her eye.
'A Hug From Harry: Ellie Goulding Cozies Up to the Prince'
Jackie could feel her face flush with anger as she let out a frustrated laugh.
'Pop singer Ellie Goulding is set to sing at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games in just two days, but was spotted today during Day 3, cheering on athletes and getting a tour of the event.'
'Later, she headed backstage, where she met up with Prince Harry, the creator and host of the Paralympic-style sporting extravaganza.'
