Then he said " now here is the kid in charge of you all." "will you come up over here Jake Layfield." He said, my eyes had widened. It felt like they were going to pop out of my head sometime soon. I turned to Jay as he was giving me this big smirk on his face.
I wanted to punch him he jinxed me I thought. He stated to me "you owe me a dollar bill bro but go! go! before he chose someone else."
I got out of my seat. Then soon as I did all the eyes were on me. I got nervous thinking of all the wrong that could happen. Then I walked next to him. Then he pulled me in front of him facing all the children the room.
"This Is Jake Layfield guys, I had already gave him a tour. so he'll show you guys around the stuff and specific things and so on.
So guys remember, what I said don't open the door no matter what we will get you all as soon as possible." then he told them guys you can carry on with what you were doing." the Children went on with there conversations.
I was on my way to my seat when I heard the guard call my name. "Jake I need to speak with you, come back here." he said with a commanding voice.
I walk back to him and stop when I got an three inches away from him he opened the door, then signaled me to follow him. Right behind him, I went out the door then closed the door behind me.
Then he look at me, it stayed silent for a moment. Then he finally said "Son I wish I can stay to watch you but, I can just give you a pep talk. I want you to be smart with everything you do.
Show them whose the leader because they are going to try to trample you for that spot. Be wise, strong, and be ready for anything. Give out jobs you do some of the jobs. Show them around the shelter.
Be careful, the jealousness will come out of some of the people here." I told him "I will, but what if I screw up or people begin to leave." He responded "well, if they leave they will have to wait.
Tell them don't Risk the live others because they are scared or angry. Plus, have confidence in your voice, keep order around, work too, and show them your not slacking off while they working. With that in mind you'll do find son."
I sighed then said "Also why did you chose me to be the leader?" he said "I thought about it.......it was just an instinct, I thought over the idea and you seem like someone who can lead and people will follow."
I said to him "But I"- "no buts, you won't know if you keep doubting yourself get started with the tour, I have to go Goodluck and Goodbye." he said as he cut me off.
I yelled to him as he walked "hey, what's your name, sir." he stopped in his tracks "my name is Rege John, son."then he was walking away again I said "Goodbye and Goodluck!"
I walked back into the cafeteria opening and closing the door. Everyone looked at me silently. I took that opportunity before I missed it. "Hello everyone, who's is ready to take the tour of this place? But, before that let's go over something. Tomorrow we will assign jobs to everyone including me too.
We live here with no adults but that don't mean we slack off we want to live we have to be smart. I Just have three main rules. Number 1. Don't ever exit the shelter doors if you want to leave then wait till they come and get us, you will not endanger the lives of others because your scared or angry.
Number 2. Don't slack off on your Jobs, that is what will keep us busy and in a maintained community. Lastly 3. No fights or Riots that's it for the rules."
I really started feel as if I was about to faint I was so nervous I felt dizzy, But I amazed myself I never thought I could do that. That pep talk was amazing. As I thought to myself. The people were surprised, they stared at me for a while.
But, then some were happy or with amazement though some looked as if I ran over their dog or something. I ignored that, then said "Are you all ready to take the tour of the shelter?"
