Patrick and I went back to the station with the framed paper. I sent it down the forensics lab while I went and spoke to the chief.
The chief eyes have long seen the images of the victims' body. He was pretty pissed off to know that I dedicated the use of so many men in a search for outdated records when I could have done it myself."What we do know is that there is a killer at large and he only targets female victims. He leaves these unmarked calling cards at each location." I was telling the chief all I knew.
"How you know it's a he?" Chief Darwin mustache danced as he spoke.
"All the victims are females."
"So? What does that say?" The chief questioned my response.
"Naturally there are more male killing females than females killing females. A very significant amount. All that aside we need to tell the public."
"Okay, press conference tomorrow at noon. It's your job." the chief spoke and flicked his wrist ushering me out.
"What?"
"Detective Anderson, I sure as hell know I didn't stutter."

Several news team congregated at the steps to the precinct. A podium was set up with many mikes on top.
Good I thought. No one have to see me quivering.
"Over the past few months a series of murders have committed here in our town. All three victims are female and of generally the same age."
The crowd buzzed with excitement and a male voiced stormed over the noise, "Is there a serial killer loose in our town?"
"There is a killer at large who kills women, so yes."
Another voice, " Are you saying that all women are at risk of being murdered."
I took a while before answering that one. "No."
"What is the police doing to stop this mass murderer?" A female reporter asked.
I mentally noted the use of mass murderer. The media sure knew how to twist words.
"The Detectives on the case are relentlessly trying to solve the cases."
I tried to convince them with that lie."When do you think the murderer will strike again?" The first reporter asked.
Tomorrow.
"We are not exactly sure." I said.
Cutting off the press release a few questions later, I went back in my cramped office and waited.
