That small bit of news was certainly shocking. Someone altering their gender?
Why?
I knew I was comfortable with my body but this Carl was not.
I forced my mind to move past the little hiccup.

"How old was your..."
Sister?
Brother?
"Sibling?"

"Carl was 27. He worked at Walmart as a cashier."

Well the age region certainly matched with the other victims.

"I know what you must be thinking," the lady whose name I've yet to know spoke. "How can a Walmart employee acquire the funds to do such an operation?"

I certainly wasn't thinking about that but now my curiosity was awaken.

"My family, we are sort of wealthy. The name means Savanna anything to you?"

Only one of the richest families ever, yea. But I didn't say that.

"Yea."

"Well that's my family. My sister wanted her fair share of the cake and she got it. After the surgery she was cut from the family and all ties were dismembered."

All except one apparently.

"Shortly after Selena changed her name and started using our mother's maiden name, Buccanon. Bought a house, moved out here, now she's dead."

"Do you know of anybody who would want to hurt your sister?" I pried.

"Not really. But everyone wanted my father's money but they would simply try and kidnap me to get a few millions. Let's just say he was sticky with the funds so after a while they stopped trying."  The nameless lady said.

"And what's your name?" I asked her.

"Louis Savanna." Her hands crept into her coat pockets.

"We are going to need an official statement from you down at the station." I pointed to a police cruiser. "Just a custom."

She nodded and walked over to the car where a police officer stood and disappeared inside.

**************************
My head was pounding by the time I made it back to the station. There I called Patrick and updated him about the case. He was more than a little surprised.
The chief wanted to see me again, for what reason I couldn't figure.

"Do you know who was killed yesterday." He asked me.

"Yes sir I do."

"Then you known the stakes here. The Savanna family placed out a $500,000 reward to anybody who turns in the culprit. I don't want a load of ragamuffins running loose in the city trying to get their greedy hands on that money. Neither does the mayor. He called me today and you know what he asked me?"

"No Sir, I do not." The room was moist and made me uncomfortable.

"He said I thought you had your best detectives on the case. Now you can just imagine the situation I'm in. The mayor calls me speaking about my best detectives and yet you're on the case! I say to him that they've almost cracked the case."
The chief drew out a folder from his desk.
"Now Detective Anderson, I need you to find this damn murderer so the mayor can stop breathing down my neck. If you can't I'll have to reassign someone else to the case and see what will happen to this folder."

I squinted my eyes and made out the name on the folder the chief was holding.
And it was mine.
