I couldn't believe what I saw. In an instant the once empty hallway was almost filled with nurses, doctors and patients running towards the origin of the scream. Through it all my voice squashed the others yelling, "Police, I'm a cop!."
No one seemed to mind so I forced my way through. Almost at the end of the hallway, a break came up in the right, a man in a white coat cradled a female in his arms.
I knelt on my knee and was shocked to see the lady who I was just speaking to unconscious on the floor. I could not tell if she was dead or alive but the man was performing CPR on her.
"Sir, we need to get this woman emergency help right away." My voice filled with urgency.
"Yes, right away!" He replied whilst scooping her up. He moved with ease as he carried her to a room little down the hall.
"Anyone saw what happened?" I asked.
"Yes," a soft spoken voice said. It was that of a woman.
"Someone from the hospital was choking her, I came in the room, screamed and the man stopped and ran." The lady was a nurse as she was dressed in all white and had the little half watch clipped on her shirt.
And talk about ironic, an attempted murder at a hospital.
Murder.
Murder?
Murder!
The words resonated in my mind but made no sense until it hit me. The lady who was unconscious could be a possible witness in our ongoing investigation, the lady who was unconscious could have been a possible victim. The lady who was unconscious could be key in blowing this investigation wide open.

Mrs Mitchum was transferred to an emergency room while I made a few phone calls to my partner, the acting chief and the chief. I went back to question the nurse who witnessed the attempted murder. Her name was Natalie Simmons.
"Please tell me what happened, play by play." I asked.
She was calm, maybe too calm but she probably work with dying patients everyday and knew what it was like for someone to die in-front of her. "A doctor was prepping for surgery and sent me to the resource room to gather some equipment, when I got there I saw a man in blue scrubs choking Mrs Mitchum, I screamed, he let go, pushed me and ran."
"Did you get to see his face?" I was hopeful.
"No, but..." The nurse trailed off and looked at me.
"But?" My patience was running low.
"I saw which direction he went in."
This lady was going to make me ask, "where was that?"
"Straight down the corridor towards the elevator."
I dashed out the room where I held Ms Simmons for my privacy and her safety. I tore down the corridor towards the elevator. Around a minute later and I was inside, looking. I pulled the rug off the flooring and checked to see if there were any loose panels in the wall.
Nothing.
I looked up in disbelief and dragged my hand across my face. I rubbed my eyes, and then did it once more. In the corner of the elevator roof, tucked neatly in was a small green paper.
