Showers Of All Sorts

The house was joyous as many persons of all forms and types occupied my loving space. It was the night of our baby's shower and rain fell from the sky.
Nevertheless friends and family members still came out to present us with unisex gifts since my wife and I decided we didn't want to know the gender of our child.

Even the chief showed up and Patrick Sutherland came as well. I expected the latter but was surprised at chief Darwin's presence.
Ashley's mother came to plan the shower, my parents and I didn't exactly get along. We haven't spoken in two years, a grandchild won't change our current communication state.

In the after eleven most of our guests had left and only a few females stayed behind to drink the remaining champagne and discard the gift wrappers. The shower turned out better than we expected.
I noticed Patrick lingering outside and I went to converse.
"I need a drive home. I called several ubers and they are all unavailable."

In five minutes we were on the road. Patrick stayed on his mobile phone tapping away at the screen. We were nearing his apartment when he suddenly got very excited.
"I figured it out." He said, hardly containing his excitement.

"You know I hate vague statements."

"Sorry. I know we aren't officially working, but I think I made a very important discovery."

The grind never stops.
"Oh yea? What's that?" I kept my eyes glued to the road.

"Our mystery man left the colored papers at each crime scene. All of the same size and texture but never of the same color." The rain started to fall ever so slightly.

"It's his calling card." I answered him.

"No." Patrick said firmly. "If it was a calling card it would be of the same color. He's trying to tell us something."

"Yes he is. He's daunting us. Playing with our minds. He knows we won't catch him." I turned on the wiper and the minimum speed and the strum-drum sound started.

"More than that. The colors are representing something deeper." Patrick tapped a few more times on his phone. "See here it says that the colors are four of the seven colors from the rainbow."

"The rainbow? So we have a gay serial killer on our hands." I mused.

A soft chuckle came from Patrick. "We can't rule out that possibility. But on a more serious note, if he is following the rainbow but there are only four murders so far..." Detective Sutherland trailed off.

Shit!
"That means he has three persons left to kill."
