Sunlight peers through the classroom windows,
The day passes in a blur.
John meets us deep within the woods again.
"A Dragon's scales are it's ultimate defense Haru."

"Scales?"
"Yes you've grown accustomed to fighting fire Dragons so you haven't had much need for them."
My natural resistance  to the flames.
"For today's training you will block my attacks by materializing your scales."

"Ready?"
"Ready as I'll  ever be"
John nods. Firing a bolt of lightning from a single index finger.
I cross my arms, scales covering them "ugh" it hurts a little.

"No time to rest!"
Another blast is already coming,
Leaping at the bolt thrusting forward my scale covered knee,
"Whew, barely blocked that one"

A stinging sensation draws my eyes to my leg, lightning  dancing along the scales.
"Hurts like hell though"
"Your scales are your armor you must learn to use them subconsciously."
With that John shoots lightning from not one but all 5 fingers.

"From all sides?"
"Speed is impertinent"
"Shit" my scales aren't forming fast enough!
