Unsuspecting Present

I imagined my 16th birthday
To be filled with love and joy
And while it was
There was still a hole

I laid in the grass, under the stars,
Watching as meteorites
shot across the sky
And while they sank in awe
So did my heart

I now see what was obvious before.
You'll never turn 16
You'll never graduate
You'll never drive
You will only stay put

Stuck in a singular time which you put yourself in
A single moment which you will never be able to pass
And while I age
You can't

While I force myself to grow
You will stay frozen
In a place and time
I will never touch
And will never change
Because I'm now 16
And you're in a grave.
