Perrie's POV
Mum's words still echoed in my mind as we parted ways. I drove to Leigh Anne's house. She always knew what to say. Should I even tell Zayn about Jade? It'll be the most awkward conversation ever. Especially, since I told Zayn he was my first relationship. I mean technically he is. Jade never wanted to do the couple stuff in fear of her rep and coming out. He'll be crushed if I told him. Ugh, this is so hard!
"I thought relationship problems ended when you get married," I mutter to myself. I park into her driveway, shutting the car door behind me before locking everything. I walk up her front steps, and ring the doorbell about two to three times. With Leigh Anne that's how many times you needed to ring. She's a lazy one.
I could hear her cursing about how it was too early for visitors; it was two in the afternoon. "Perrie? Really? It's like..." She pauses to check her phone. Her facial expression immediately changes when she finds out what time it is. "Holy shit, I missed Molly's song at church!"
Molly is Leigh Anne's daughter. She lives with her father. Leigh Anne didn't really have a good lawyer to help her win custody over Molly, so Molly ended up growing up without Leigh Anne. Now she's trying to make things right, but if you ask me, she's not doing a great job. But it's not really her fault. She has to work overtime a lot just to get Molly the things she needs since Molly's father is also busy with work. But he still manages to make time for his daughter.
"She was amazing. Now, let's go inside. I need to talk to you." Leigh Anne sighs as she leads me to the kitchen for some tea.
"What is it? And why is it so important that you had to drive to my house?" she asks, taking a sip from her jasmine tea. I scrunch my nose. Don't get me wrong, I love jasmine tea. It's just that the smell is too strong for my taste at the moment. Pregnancy issues.
"Jade's back."
Leigh Anne coughed, spitting out most of the tea from her mouth. "Ew! Leigh!" I scoot back on my seat before any of the hot tea gets on my outfit. "What do you expect my reaction to be, Per?" She yells. "Not throwing up hot tea in my face!" I yell back.
She sighs throwing the rest of her tea down the sink. She quietly cleans up the mess before moving over to the couch in the living room. She pats the empty space next to her. I reluctantly take a seat, still a bit mad that she yelled at me.
"Okay, now tell me everything that happened so far?" And I did. I told her about me grabbing Jade, and saying I didn't want to be strangers. I told her about how I never told Zayn about my past with her. I told her about my breakfast with Mum. By the time I was done talking, my makeup was smeared, mascara ran streaks down my cheeks. I probably look like a raccoon right now. Leigh Anne hands me a Kleenex to wipe my tears. I smile, taking it. "I don't know why it's bothering me so much." I say. "I thought that chapter was closed. I thought I finally got over her when I married Zayn."
"She was your first love, Perrie." Leigh Anne reminds me. I sigh. Sometimes I wish she wasn't.
Flashback (Perrie's POV)
"Okay class." Ms. Fisher says, clasping her hands together. "I want you all to give a warm welcome to our new student. Perrie?" She scans the room, looking for me. She gives me an encouraging smile, Gillingham'd be enough to get me to the front of the class. I hate when tea hers do this. What do they think it will accomplish?
I get up, gulping. I fidgeted with the cross necklace hanging down my chest. I've never been a new student before now. I don't know how to make friends. Unlike most people, it just doesn't come naturally for me. I think I over think it too much sometimes, but how can you not? High school is fuckin scary. "Hi," I whisper, still looking down at my hands. "I'm Perrie." My voice came out shaky.
I hear one kid in the back yell "I can't hear her! Can't she talk?! Is she mute?!"
I bite my lip, trying to stop the tears threatening to come. The class erupted in a fit of laughter. Before I know it, I was out the door headed towards the girl's bathroom to hide away. I close the door, taking deep breaths. Maybe I should ask Mum to just homeschool me. That'd be so much better than this crap. I can hang out with my cat all day. We could watch movies together and I could help Mum with her knitting and -.
"You okay?" a voice asks. I open my eyes to find a girl that's two inches shorter than me giving me a curious smile. "You ran pretty quickly. Is it your first day?" she asks. I nod slowly, unable to form words.
"It's okay. I get what you're going through. I was the new girl here about a year ago. It was pretty brutal. I was shorter than everyone else, so they picked on me, calling me shrimp. It didn't last. I'm sure it'll get better for you too." She takes my hand, and leads me to the sinks. "Here, wash your face, so your eyes don't look so puffy." I nod, following her instructions as she babbles on about random things. I was surprise at how nice she was being.
"Anyways, it's almost lunch time. We should go back to class." She says then. I was a bit disappointed but I nod, getting off the counter top. "By the way, I'm Jade. Jade Thirlwall."
I shake her extended hand. "Perrie," I tell her with a smile. "Perrie Edwards."
"Nice to meet you, Perrie." She giggles, pulling me in for a tight hug. "I can just tell we're going to be the best of friends!" she whispers in my ear before letting me go, and heading back to her class.
"Yeah, me too." I whisper, breathless. Forget butterflies, it feels like bombs exploding in my stomach. Jade. What a pretty name. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of her. I really hope I see her soon.
