Time is Money

Time is money, believed Benjamin Franklin
how wrong he was, dead wrong.

Compound interest is the eight wonder of the world
who understands it, earns it
who doesn't, pays it - Albert Einstein knew.

But a principal amount of time
cannot be compounded
with interest on interest.
the sheer impossibility to reinvesting interest
on precious time as a resource,
rather than paying it out
so that interest in the next period
is then earned on the principal sum
plus previously-accumulated interest.

Unlike monetary reserves
time cannot be restored from a checkpoint file
at Fort Knox - or any other (armed) bullion depository,
whilst yielding a handsome interest rate for the owner.

Unlike stolen US Treasuries,
lost time is unlikely to get refunded
not by Swiss RE, American Express
the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System
the Bank of England,
less still by the Comptroller General
of Banco Central de Costa Rica.

As acknowledged by Henry VIII of England
a king infamous for his love of wasting money
exceeding even the love for his six wives
time is like rents in some parts of Ireland -
"What loss, your grace,
is to man most irrecoverable?
Of all losses, time is the most irrecuperable
for it can never be redeemed."
