"Peter! Peter?"

I could hear mother's concerned but gentle voice coming closer. I felt her hand gently rub my arm. My eyes slowly flickered open and I saw relief take over parts of her face, even though she still had a look of concern.

"What is going on in here?" I heard grandmother question as she walked into the room.

"Peter... I found him on the floor. He seems to be conscious though."

"Wait a minute... Sylvia, isn't that the lamp in his arms?"

"Why, yes."

"Do any of you care to explain the meaning of this? How about you Peter? You seem to be the one on the-"

"Mother, please. Let me take Peter to my room. Let him recover before you began your investigation."

"Alright, but let me help you get him to the bed."

I felt two pairs of hands remove the lamp and lift me up. The movement of feet gently rocked me until mother's warm bed cradled me. I began to open my eyes more confidently and they followed grandmother as she exited the room. Mother sat next to me and gently rubbed my hand in hers.

"Does it hurt anywheres?"

"Just a bit from the impact, but not too much."

"Well that's good. Not to pressure you too much, but would you mind telling me what happened? It's fine if you don't want to do it right now."

"No, it's fine. The others wanted to know about my day, and then asked how much trouble I got in with grandmother. I told them the truth, which was none at all, because I had explained what happened. George didn't believe me, and started knocking over the lamp. I guess it was to try and prove me wrong... I wanted to save it though. That lamp is special to me, and I know it is to you too, mother."

She kissed me on the forehead and continued to gently cradle my hand.

"You did the right thing, Peter. Before and right now. Thank you."

I leaned forward to hug her but she gently pushed me back up against the support of the pillows. She then leaned into me and gave me a hug.

"You should rest, Peter. Do you mind if I explain to grandmother for you?"

"Not at all. Thank you, mother."

She nodded and began to walk out of the room.

"Mother! One more thing..."

"Yes, Peter?"

"Do you think Mr. Barrie could come over for a visit?"

"I'll see what I can do."
