Run...

Do not look back

Hide...

Do not come out

Remain Brave.

Remain strong.

The cupboard was so small - tiny - that it was a miracle she was able to fit in it. Her mother had shoved her in roughly and warned her to stay quiet. Her knees hurt and she could feel the onset of a cramp forming in her hamstrings. The darkness of the cupboard was consuming, and the shadows seemed to be choking the air out of her.

She hated the dark.

Only the words of warning from her mother stopped her from screaming and lunging out of the cramped dark space.

If there was a word stronger than hate, that will be the emotion she felt for darkness. There was nothing else she detested so deeply.

Mother had said that darkness is just the absence of light, and there is nothing to fear from it, but she knew that in darkness there also lies evil.

Reflexively, her hands clasped tightly over her ears as an ear-piercing scream echoed through the house. The desire to come out of hiding was suffocating, but she knew that no matter how brave she was, she was still very weak and she had given her word to stay hidden until her mother came for her.

Please be safe. she prayed, please God, save them.

The screams silenced, and a heavy weight tugged on her heart.

The cupboard door flew open and the hot gaze of a monstrous bloody creature burned through her.

Do not fear, stay strong, her mother's weak voice chided her. There is nothing to fear in the dark.

A sob broke through her lips, she did not want to fear, but fear was already upon her.

The dark had finally come.
