Two weeks!

It has been two weeks.

Two weeks of navigating New York traffic.

Two weeks of living in her new apartment.

Two weeks at her new job

Two weeks! and she had nothing much to show for it.

At work there was no clarity on what her job was supposed to be, but she was recognized as a staff at Vern.

There had been no training, no orientation, no introduction, there had been nothing. When she had walked into Vern's headquarters and introduced herself to the secretary, she had been passed on from department to department, until she had landed in Tessa's office.

The evil queen who had turned her into her personal slave.

Now she was known in the office as the "coffee girl".

Vern is a prestigious art and fashion company established in New York, owning and sponsoring galleries, artistes, wearable art, luxury interior designs and many more.

The company was very influential in the art world, and Ysabel believed herself blessed to be chosen as an apprentice.

Gradually, as the days passed, the excitement of moving to a new state and starting a new job faded and worry, regret and disappointment began to set in. This was not what she had envisioned, this was not the big break she had been expecting.

Joey had been concerned that the deal was too good to be true; perhaps he was right, she should have listened.

It had been just like a fairy tale.

Helen, a senior executive at Vern, walked into a lame mom and pop restaurant and suddenly fell in love with some lame sketches that had been displayed on their lame dirty walls.

It had felt like a dream to hear that a big shot from New York was looking for her because they has fallen deeply in love with her art work. It had seemed like a sign from God, because she had just dropped out of college and was thinking of the most lucrative place for her to begin her journey as an artist.

For the past few days, she had called Helen, but all she had gotten was her voicemail.

Diligently, everyday she left messages hoping she would get a phone call, but still she had received no response.

Perhaps she was meant to work her way up.

There was no such thing as a free meal.

Just because she had been offered an apprenticeship at Vern by a senior executive does not mean she should expect preferential treatment - but she had secretly hoped that it would be so.

In fact, it should be expected of her to work twice as hard to prove that she was worthy of her position - although, she hoped that would not be her happen, considering that she hated pressure and was quite a bum.

Perhaps this was a test to see her true character and strength. It is a great thing to be talented, but without dedication and hard work, talent would fail you. Her hope was that one day she will rise like an eagle to the top and soar above them, and perhaps then Tessa would be her coffee girl.

Ysabel chuckled at that thought as she walked the few steps into her residence.

During her two weeks at Vern, she had met many interns and apprentices, but they all seemed to be doing way better than her, actually performing a definite task, and not running around the city as Tessa's slave.
