Ezra's P.O.V

I woke up with no weight on my shoulders. I did my regular 'get ready for school' routine and before I know it, I'm waiting for mom. I wore a long sleeved shirt to cover my scars. "Wow, you actually beat me?" Mom teased and a playfully glared at her. She chuckled and we went off to school.

We arrived at the building six minutes later. I snuck up behind Sabine and jumped-hugged her. "What the- Ezra?!" Sabine said shocked. "The one and only," I replied getting her out of my hold. She turned around with worry sketch on her face. "Are you ok?" Sabine asked, "That video was a horrible thing to watch, especially for you". "Yeah, I've got people that love me to help," I sheepishly said, scratching my head. Sabine smiled and playfully punched my shoulder making me laugh. I looked over her shoulder and saw that Cooper kid at his locker. "I'll see you later Sabine," I waved. She said by and went off. Cooper saw me and smiled saying, "hey". "My name is Ezra, Ezra Jarrus," I greeted with a smile. "Are you sure your the same kid I saw yesterday?" He said sarcastically. "Yes, yes I am," I replied. The bell rang and I said far well to Cooper. 'Maybe he can be my new friend,' the thought made me more happy. What could go wrong today?

*time skip*

The bell rang, ending my first class. "Have a good day class," mom said. I saw Cooper walking in the hall and went over to him. "Hey Cooper," I called and he stopped walking at his name. He saw me, "What's up, Ezra". "The ceiling," I said and he laughed. "Nice one, what class do you have next?". "I have History next," I answered. "Same," he joyfully cheered, "let's go before we get on his bad side". We made it to the classroom on time and took our seats. "What's the teachers name?" I asked Cooper, who was sitting in front of me. "Mr. Danton, but we call him Mr. Demon," Cooper whispered. "Oh," I said and the teacher entered the room. He saw me and walked right up next to my desk. "Mister Jarrus, where were you yesterday?" He said bitterly. "I got let out early," I answered. Mr. Damon glared at me for some odd reason. "The you wouldn't mind standing in front of the class and answer a few questions?" He asked and continued, "you know, to review from what you missed".

I saw some students turn pale and go wide eyed. "Um s-sure," I said nervously and walked to the front of the room. "Hold your arms out and don't put them down until I tell you," Mr. Damon commanded. I did as I was told and nervously waited for the first question. "Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?" He said. I thought for a second and said unsure, "George Washington?". From out of no where, Mr. Damon brought out a ruler and whipped it on my arms. I let out a grunt of pain and bit my lip to make sure not to yell. "Who wrote common sense?" Mr. Damon said. I took a minute to think about my answer, but I got whipped by the ruler again. Evidently, he is not patient. "T-Thomas Pain," I said and thankfully, I got it right because he didn't whip me.

"How did the United States get involved with World War II?" He said. "The British invaded and attached the United States," I said questionably. Another whip to the arms and I saw some blood stain my sleeves. He didn't care though and could with the questions and whipping if I got one wrong. I didn't know when, but I was crying from the pain. Isn't it illegal for teachers to do this?! Mr. Damon kept it up until the bell rang. "You are excused but remember what happens if you displease me!" He said. The class gave me pity looks and went on their way to their next class. Mr. Damon gripped my now blood stained sleeves tight causing pain. "Don't upset me next time," he leaned forward to be next to my ear, "Bridger". I was shocked and he let go of my arm.

Dad told me that people from Empire City are very cruel people with dark pasts. I think that Mr. Damon was from that city. I dug deeper into thought as I walked out of the room quickly. Then I realized something, my old parents used to do broadcasts about Empire City and how they lived. Let's just say, no one from the city liked what they said. Everything was coming together now, Kallus, those police officers from when I was little, Paul, Drake, and now Mr. Damon. They were all from Empire City and they are out to get my, under anyone that is not an imperial noses. What about Sabine? Could she be from that horrible city? No, she can't, she is to nice and cheery to be from some place like that, right? A headache was forming from all my confusion questions spinning in my head.

I sat down in my seat but I didn't pay any attention to what the teacher was talking about. I was to busy getting everything untangled and straightened out. A couple of classes later, it was my break time and I used it to check my arms. I went to the bathroom, rolled my sleeves up and carefully took the gaze off. The sight of my arms almost made me throw up. There were scars spread across my arm and blood was everywhere. I literally almost cried and hyperventilate at my gashed up arm.

I grabbed some paper towels and ran them under water. I gently started to wipe off my arm and winced when it stings. I wrapped up my arm and did the same thing to the other. When I was done, I went out of the restroom and back to my free class time.
