The annoying buzzer of the alarm awoke me.
7:30am
After turning it off, I walked downstairs, to Katie. She sat, red hair swept into a bun, coffee mug in hand. The latest addition of "Jamaican Me Crazy" had come out and she couldn't get enough of the cheesy/comedic love stories in the article. Sluggishly trudging to the kitchen where she sat at the island, my gaze fell to her man, who feverishly tried to scramble eggs, and fry bacon at the same time. He popped two slices of bread into the toaster. He grabbed plates, and lined them on top of the island. Lucius loved her, did everything he could to impress her, he was the real child's play, not Mr. Anderson. I bit my fingernail.
"Naomi! Gosh, why aren't you dressed?" she stood and rushed over to me, I shook my head, gesturing for her to go sit down, "you're biting your nails, you only do that when something is bothering you." I slipped into a seat beside Katie.
"You're going to work today, right?" she said meeting Lucius' eyes.
"No" I said at once. They both frowned.
"How can you not go the third week? You will fall behind on hours!" she encouraged, Lucius nodded in agreement.
I sighed, "I feel...sick, and tired and just not up to it today," or any other day, "I have the entire summer to do the time." I muttered, biting into the buttered toast.
"You're talking like an inmate," she barked, "you're better than that guy, who hurt you, which is why you should leave and continue your hours." she pressured pushing me up from the chairs. Lucius watched us, biting into his own toast. I started to get angry, "guys! I need your support right now! Could you stop bitching around and see the bigger picture?" I yelled, making a box with my hands. Lucius closed his eyes and rested his head against one of the upper cabinets above the sink. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, then shut it. I knew what they wanted to do, obviously jump down each other's throat, and seeing another couple make love, was only going to make me feel less wanted. I slammed my chair into the island and ran up the steps. Showering and brushing my teeth quickly I dragged on a pair of high-waisted shorts, and a cropped top. My Vans were dirty, but they'd have to do. Carrying my bag with my volunteer hour papers, and purse, I shuffled down the steps and out the door, lifting my keys off the hook.
"That's the spirit!" Katie cheered.
Sitting in my car, I drove to school. Parking in the space, no longer close to his. I parked across the street, nearly a block down, where I could watch his car pull in. He parked easily, stepping out with two bags of Panera. I grinned, but stopped suddenly. His trousers were loose, the belt was undone. Easy explanation, I thought quickly, he used the bathroom. Walking to the other side of the car, he waited until the door opened, steadily holding the bag for Val. She glanced around, before tightening the belt. His lips moved and she nodded, smiling at him, licking her lips. He kissed her forehead while resting the bag in her lap. They walked to the school doors, swiping their access cards before disappearing into the entrance. I fumed, starting the car again, I sped away.
I drove home, tears springing to my eyes again. I was so ridiculous, there was no way to explain it. I parked in the driveway. Clicking off the seatbelt and relaxing into the seat. I only snapped awake when someone tapped on the glass.
"Can we talk?" he voiced, it was Mr. Anderson.
My heart pounded, I wound the window down, "What?" I said sharply, my tone could cut through glass with the amount of fire built behind it.
"Can I sit in the seat?" he snickered, pointing to the passenger's seat.
"Whatever you have to say, you can say it right here!" I yelled, he looked around, leaning into the car.
"Look, I saw you drive past the school when I was signing in, I rushed back into my car to follow you, and I want to clear up... what you saw." he slowed the last of his sentence. I looked forward, avoiding his eyes.
"You had sex, sex! It was just that, most humans have sex, it's a normal thing, no need to sugarcoat it." I begun to wind the window up, when he flicked the switch to unlock the car doors. He opened the car door and grabbed my arm, pulling me out of the car.
"Cut the bullshit," he said pushing me against my car, "you wanted it, you wanted me." he said slyly, pushing his frame against mine. I felt weak and small against him, and I couldn't let him have my attention that easily. I tried to push him off, my attempt was frugal, but I managed to get my hands around his belt.
"You were a boy, compared to the men I've had." I laughed.
"Lie!" He argued, sliding his hand up my shorts. I wanted him to continue, to drag me into the car, to touch me. I held my ground.
"Oh yeah, prove to me that you could ever be better!" I sneered, pushing against him. He loosened his grip on my arm, and leaned off.
"And to think, I would never cheat on Val again." He divulged to more himself, than to me.
"With who?" I hissed, knowing damn well who it was.
