I rolled over, knocking into the still body that had caressed me only the night before. Heath's wife had kicked him out of their house, and he only had the hotel room to sleep in. Being as I also was in a huge turmoil with Katie, I had to stay here along with Heath. We had woken every day to get dressed for work, but today I had woken earlier than the usual 6:00am.
I stretched against the sheets, letting my forehead rest inches from his. After staring at his calm face, smiling at the thought of him being so at peace, I decided to get dressed to make my way to hotel gift shop. I dressed in sweatpants and a tight t-shirt for comfort, my eyes rested on a cupcake in one of the many store windows. Paying for it quickly, I pigged out, eating the sprinkles and licking the paper.
"Hungry?" a voice sounded.
I spun to come face to face with Heath, blushing quickly, I grinned as I pushed him back playfully.
"Morning cravings, every girl gets them." I smiled sheepishly, turning to return to the hotel room. I ran up the stairs, Heath following behind teasingly. As we got to the room, I noticed my phone buzzing from the nightstand. Heath and I glanced at each other, him turning to walk out of the room for my privacy. As I reached the phone, I picked up, expecting it to be the familiar voice of the redhead I once lived with.
"Naomi?" the voice roared, "I have been calling you for the longest time, I even called Katie."
"Mom?" I thought aloud, clutching my stomach, it had began to feel queasy.
"Who else could it be? I wanted to let you know, I was coming down for the summer. We just got back from Miami! Now I miss my daughter, if only you had completed those volunteer hours earlier!" She uttered angrily. I slid onto the bed, propping my back against the downy soft pillows that littered the sheets.
"Mom, I don't need you to check on me, me and Katie are fine." I sighed, "Mom I have to go!" I rushed, viewing the phone to find the 'end call' button.
"I'll be there in one-" I cut her off, just as Heath entered the room smiling, just as he walked in his lips quickly pursed, and his face contorted into a worried expression.
"Are you okay?" He asked walking to my side. I nodded, which was a total lie. I felt like throwing up, and had cramps. Laying back against the pillow now, I shut my eyes, but the bile rose into my throat. Rushing to the bathroom as the liquid pushed against my lips, I coughed all of my stomach's contents into the toilet. Heath appeared behind me, soothing my back with his hand. I flushed the toilet, throwing down the seat cover to sit on it. With my forehead resting on my hands, I looked down to Heath, who had crouched to peer up at me.
"You're definitely not okay. " He muttered, wiping a hand over his face. "I'll go and get you some soda, heard that usually help with the nausea" and with that, he backed out of the bathroom. The strangest feeling of wetness seeped into my mind, as well as my pants. I jerked upward, staring down at the toilet seat, I had gotten my period. Sighing, I grabbed paper towels and began wiping down the bathroom. Afterwards, I hopped out of the bathroom, hauling all of my necessary toiletries back in there before Heath returned. Showering and changing into new clothes, I left. I collapsed on the bed, feeling a lot more relaxed as he handed me the sprite.
"Period," I murmured, watching him shuffle his fingers through his hair rapidly, his expression wild. He looked as though he wanted to ask something, but I quickly dismissed the idea when the alarm clock sounded.
"I'm calling in sick" I said hurriedly, pushing numbers frantically on the phone pad. Dave answered, saying he'd take up two shifts for that day, not forgeting to wish me a quick return. Heath shook his head, and began getting himself prepared for work.
