I followed him to the back. I noticed that even the backyard was decorated and lighted.

"Wow. It's really beautiful out here." I said in aw.

"Thanks. Sloane's work. She personally supervised the decorations."

We moved along the lighted sidewalk. The lanterns were beautiful. It was a totally romantic area. I felt goosebumps take over me.

Shane led me to a corner of the huge garden where there was no light. The place was really dark that I could hardly see well.

Finally we stopped walking and I leaned so my back touched the tree trunk. Shane stood in front of me. Even in the dark I could see his eyes sparkling. No one passing by could see us.

"You're very beautiful tonight." he complimented.

"Thank you. You're very handsome in your suit too."

"You think?"

"Yeah." I giggled.

"Thank you too. Though I'm not very used to suits."

"Trust me. They fit you well."

He smiled.

"So what did you want to tell me."

"I told Josh no."

Shane's brows shot up.

"You–"

"Yeah. I officially broke up with him."

"You??"

I giggled.

"Hahahaha, yeah me. Surprising right?"

He smiled.

"Baby, that's– that's Great! You've finally gotten rid of that dumbass. Forgive my language but he deserves the title."

I laughed.

"Sort of."

"I'm happy for you."

"Thank you."

"Luckily, the bastard did not get the chance to sleep with you while y'all were together."

My smile faded when he said that. And he noticed it even in the dark.

"Tell me he didn't." he muttered with a suddenly serious tone. I didn't reply.

"Shayenne, did he?"

"Well–"

"What? You allowed him??"

"No. Well, he–"

I swallowed, a lump in my throat. I went on to tell him the whole story. Shane was very shocked.

"Why didn't you tell me this before??"

"I didn't want to. I just want to put it behind me. It's alright. Let's forget it. I'm through with the bastard."

"But–"

"Please, Shane."

He sighed.

"Alright. It's okay."

I smiled. He smiled back. We stared silently at each other. In the dark. Thoughts of that texting night returned. The things he'd told me. There was awkward silence. There was definitely some tension between us.

Was I in the right place? With Shane? In a dark silent corner?
