Harry's Point Of View -
I watched her jog off, her head bent as she bit her lip. She entered the toilets and I turned towards Ella, who had a smug look on her face. Alfie stood beside her, stunned.
"What the fuck did you do that for?" I snarled, catching Ella by surprise. She'd expected me to laugh, to shrug and not do anything.
"It was an accident," she said, her eyes narrowed. "Why, is there a problem?"
"The girl was wearing a white dress for Christ's sake!" I snapped.
"So what? It didn't suit her anyway." Ella looked torn, her hand gripping the empty wine glass.
I didn't agree with her. The dress had looked stunning. I glanced at the toilets, then back at Alfie.
"Go," he nodded, his lips pressed in a firm straight line.
I walked off towards the toilets. Ella had done it on purpose, an idiot would've known. Bringing her back was a bad idea. I was extremely drunk and I hadn't even meant to ask her out. It had slipped out, and by the time I had sobered up the next morning I had realised what I had done. It may have been to do with the fact that thinking about Olly and Brenna together, alone back at college was tantalizing for me. Too late though, my mum had asked too many questions and in the end she'd told me to bring Ella back with me. I was going to send her home, though. She was a burden I didn't like.
I realised it was a girls toilet - not a unisex one. However, just as I reached the door, it opened and a middle aged woman stepped out. She eyed me suspiciously, stepping forward.
"Sorry," I said, straightening up, "but is there anyone in there?"
"In the lavatory?" She asked, her voice incredibly posh.
"Yeah."
"There was one girl, I think... But I didn't see anyone else. Why?"
"Great," I said, side stepping her. She blocked the entrance and frowned.
"This is a ladies' lavatory. The gentleman's one is there," she said, gesturing to the door next to the one she was standing in front of.
"No. The girl in there is my... sister. I need to go in there, she spilt wine on herself and I have to tend to her," I lied, getting a little impatient. "She's going through a rough patch, her boyfriend broke up with her. C'mon, you have to understand."
She nodded slowly. "Alright, fine. But if someone else walks in there and finds you in there, it's nothing to do with me."
She finally moved out of the way and I stepped inside, locking the doors straight away. I turned and saw nothing but a row of taps with rather clean mirrors on the wall in front of them, and opposite that a row of stalls. I walked past the stalls, and finally found the one where the lock was red instead of green.
Someone sniffled, and I knew it was Brenna straight away. "It'd be easier if you came out and washed your dress rather than crying about it," I said out loud, leaning against the stall.
There was a sharp intake of breath, and I bit back a smile. "Harry?! T-this is a girl's toilet!"
"I locked the door, don't worry."
"Still! Why are you here?"
"To check on you," I said softly. "Open the door."
"No."
I rolled my eyes. "This isn't a good time to be stubborn."
"I'm not being stubborn. Leave."
"You do know I could break open this stall quite easily, right? I'm trying to be civilized."
"Civilized? You're in the girl's toilet!" She retaliated.
"This door would be easy to open," I considered. "Open the door, or I'll drag you out."
"See if I care," she muttered.
"You have ten seconds," I warned, stepping back slightly. I counted to ten slowly.
"One, two, three, four, five..." She made no effort to open the stall.
"Six," I said, my voice menacing.
I heard a frustrated groan come from her but the door didn't unlock. "Seven, eight, nine..."
"Are you going to open the door?" I asked. She was so stubborn it reminded me of myself. Hm.
"Ten." She made no attempt to open the door, so I stepped in front of the door and lifted my knee. It came into contact with the lock and the door sprang open.
Brenna was standing against the stall, her eyebrow raised. Her hands were crossed over her chest where the wine had probably made the dress go see-through. I averted my eyes from that area and looked at her. Her eyes were glistening. She had been crying.
"Was that fucking necessary?" She snapped, making no effort to move.
"Yes. Next time, you'll open the stall," I countered.
"Can you just piss off? It wasn't necessary for you to follow me here," she said, sighing in frustration. "Go back to Ella," she said stubbornly, her bottom lip extending so that she was pouting slightly.
I smirked. "Is that what this is all about? You're jealous of Ella?"
"No!" She said, but she didn't sound sure of herself.
I laughed. "Wow, that's really what this is all about?"
She was getting more and more pissed off. "She fucking hates me! She kept kicking me under the table and she spilt wine on me. I haven't done anything. I hate her and I hate you. This dress cost me a lot of money, and I don't have a lot of money." Her voice was shaking. Not from sadness, but from anger. "I wouldn't be jealous of her if it killed me. There's no reason to be anyway. She may be pretty, but she's got an ugly personality. And a boyfriend to match."
I blinked. "Are you saying I have an ugly personality?"
She laughed bitterly. "Are you saying you don't?"
I shrugged slowly. "You know, you're very quick to insult me. You don't know a lot about me."
"I know that you've made my life nothing but hell since I've met you."
It was my turn to laugh. "Wow, really? You didn't seem to think that when I beat Michael up for you. Twice."
She stiffened slightly and I nodded triumphantly. "It didn't stop you from kissing me, either."
She didn't say anything. "I mean, of course it's been hell, because that's why you told me about your life, right? Why you didn't protest when I told you to step in my room?"
"Stop it!" She snapped, finally stepping out of the stall. "Stop!"
She began to punch me on the chest. "Stop assuming you know me!"
She was angry. I was a lot like her. When I got angry, I had to take my rage out on something. Usually, I took it out on the wall. Or I calmed down with sex. Brenna seemed to take it out on the person closest to her. It was then that I realised she took all her anger out on herself. By cutting, by burning. By bringing herself down. I looked at her, and decided to stop her. She wasn't hurting me a lot, but she'd probably end up hurting herself. I gripped her wrists to stop her.
"Hey, hey, hey! Stop it!" I warned, capturing both of her wrists in one hand and using the other to tilt her head upwards. "Look at me," I breathed.
She bought her brown eyes up to mine and let out a shaky breath. "I need to go."
"Where?" I asked quietly.
"Listen to me. I need to go. I don't know where, I just need to go."
"I'll come with you," I said, releasing her hands. She nodded desperately and walked out, with me following her.
