I watched Harry pick up the last box, wiping the sweat forming on his brow as he handed it to Deren, who was standing outside, waiting to be handed the boxes so he could transport them to the truck outside that would take them to the storage I was planning to leave them in for the summer, until I moved into the accommodation the internship would provide.
That’s right – I was taking it. I hadn’t spoken to Harry about it, but I had confirmed that I would take the internship and gotten an email about what the internship had available, which included pay and accommodation, obviously. He turned to me, moving to give me a kiss. I gave him my cheek, not wanting to get his sweat on me.
“You look deep in thought. What’s up?” He asked, his eyes furrowed. I smiled at him, deciding not to tell him until after his final exam.
“Just thinking about this summer. Holiday in a week!” I was amazed at how enthusiastic I made myself sound. I was pumped for this holiday, sure, but it was probably the last fun me and Harry would have together. He was planning on going on a small gig tour with his mate, Ed, and I was going to do the internship. Which I hadn’t told anyone but Lina, Rahama, and Sammy and Dan about.
“I’m glad you’re excited. Come on, walk me to my exam?”
“You’re going to your exam now?” I asked.
“Yes… It’s in half an hour?” He looked confused.
“But… you’re all sweaty.”
He chuckled, stepping away from me. “Oh well. I’ll have a shower when I’m done. But, for now, walk me?”
“Of course.” I followed him out of the door and we walked to his class, making small talk about if he was nervous and me reassuring him that he was going to do fine. I, myself, had no classes, but I was planning to meet Belinda at her room so I could help her pack for the holiday.
When we reached the classroom, he smiled. I could detect the nervousness in his smile, and it was adorable.
“Hey, don’t be stressed, you’ll be fine.” I felt guilt clawing at me for the fact that I’d even considered telling him about the internship when it was obvious he was really stressed about this exam. It was his last, after all.
“A good luck kiss would help,” he said, hopefully. I saw the cheeky glint in his eye and I rolled my eyes playfully, giving him a quick peck on the lips.
“Go, now!” I cheered, and he gave me a thumbs up before entering the classroom and going to sign himself in. I watched him sit down, then went to meet Belinda. She lived in the other wing of dorms – the ones you had to pay for.
On the way there, I saw Autumn. I diverted my eyes, feeling extremely awkward, remembering our last encounter. She stopped me, however, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“What is it?” I asked, gingerly removing her hand from my shoulder. I didn’t want – or need – a confrontation.
“I don’t want to start anything. I just wanted to say, I heard about the internship. Congrats.” She said, her voice slightly monotone.
“What?” I asked, growing nervous. I hadn’t told anyone, where had she heard this from?
“Belinda told me. I hope you enjoy it. Or whatever.” She gave me a smile, hey eyes searching for something. I realised fairly quick what she was looking for.
“He isn’t here,” I said, clearing my throat.
She nodded. “Of course,” she said slowly. “I’ll go now.”
“You should.”
“Have a nice summer.”
She walked off, and I ran to Belinda’s room. “Dude!”
