I finished packing my last few bags. I put a beanie on to cover my hair that had gotten too long and grabbed my suitcase, hockey bag, and my duffel bag.
Locking the apartment behind me, I sighed through my nose. As I went down the elevator I thought about the past week. We had gotten knocked out of the playoffs in the first round. The first round. I felt embarrassed. I had been with guys that had won it all last year and now we couldn't make it past the first round.
I loaded up my car and stopped at Claire's apartment on the way to the airport. I knocked on the door and waited until she finally answered.
"Artemi!" She hugged me and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Sorry, I was making some lunch. Want anything?"
I shook my head and cleared my throat. "No thanks. I'm not hungry."
"So what brings you over?" She asked as she sat on the barstool in her kitchen. Claire gestured for me to sit down but I remained standing.
"I uh," I stuttered. I shut my eyes and opened them again before saying, "I don't think we should be together anymore."
The content look on Claire's face changed to hurt and confused. "What?" she said quietly.
I blinked back tears. I couldn't cry; I was the one breaking up with her. "I just don't feel anything anymore."
She paused. "Is there someone else?"
"No, of course not. I'm not like that, you know that," I assured her.
"So then why are you doing this?"
I couldn't meet her eyes. "I think it's what's best for us."
She looked down at the ground with tears eyes. "I don't understand. I thought things were good between us?"
I shrugged and tried to act nonchalant. "I just don't love you anymore."
She didn't say anything, just continued to stare at the hardwood floors.
I fiddled with the keys in my pocket. "I have to go."
And with that, I walked out of Claire's apartment, leaving her sitting at her kitchen counter with a broken heart.

holy fuck you guys
I haven't updated in like a month and a half wow.
this year is going to be super busy for me. my classes are so hard i'm in honors precalc and ap psychology and my mom is pissed that I have a C in math and then on top of that I have practice and work so it's a pretty busy schedule. updates aren't going to be as frequent but I swear I haven't forgotten about this story or my jonathan toews one!!
ALSO THE HAKWS FINALLY WON A GAME AND PANIK GOT A HATTY!!! AND the cubs are doing good so it's an exciting day for Chicago fans ayyy
