"dan, i got you a sandwich." i said softly as i entered his dark cell. the moonlight was shining in from the tiny window we had in the corner. he laid down on his bed, just staring up at the ceiling. i cleared my throat hoping he would notice i was here, but his gaze stayed on the broken light bulb that hung from the roof. "dan?"

"i heard you." i took that as permission to walk further into the premisis. he looked at me, causing shivers to shoot down my back. his eyes were bloodshot, a frown on his face as he hid under the covers.

"would you like to talk to me about what's wrong, dan?" he shook his head no and took the plastic box out of my hands. but i'm not stupid and i'm not blind. and i saw the scars on his wrist. "please show me."

and as he looked up at me, the fear in his eyes told me he knew what i was talking about. it's like i could almost see him crying, but as i blinked here was no tears. "i'm sorry."

i shook my head, taking a seat in the floor next to his bed. "you shouldn't be sorry, it's beyond your control." he sighed and shifted his head so he was looking behind me. "someone's here for you."

i glanced back and saw jc standing there. "it's the end of our shift del, let's go?" i shook my head, smiling at him slightly. "i think i'll sleep here tonight. i have some stuff to tend to anyway." he shrugged and mumbled a quiet 'night' to me and i returned it. i looked back to the brunette and saw him smiling at me. "what?"

he brushed it off, "nothing." i glanced at him arm that was uncovered due to the short sleeved shirts. "would you like me to go buy a jumper for you?"

his jaw dropped. "you would do that?" i nodded, grinning slightly. "of course. nurses are supposed to care for their patients." he beamed with happiness as i stood up. "i'll be around 10 minutes. do you want anything else?"

he shook his head. "ok, see you. please be safe." i grabbed my coat from one of the hooks and grabbed my keys, heading out and telling the guards i'd be back.

---

"oh my god, it's so soft." i giggled as he rubbed the material of his new jumper. "i'm sorry it's orange, i tried getting the one that looked the softest s-"

"it's amazing. thank you." i smiled and stood up, checking his medicine schedule. i frowned in confusion when i saw the new piece of paper.

"dan, did you have any idea about your meds changing?" be shook his head, standing up. "no, what have they changed to?"

i flipped the paper, scanning it quickly. my eyebrows furrowed.

DANIEL JAMES HOWELL
PATIENT NUMBER: 009127319
AGE: 23
SEX: MALE

MEDICINE: PLANSERE, CHANGES PATIENTS STATE OF MIND. EASY TO TEST ON.

i clipped the paper back into the clipboard. "what does it mean?" i shrugged my shoulders, looking at him. "i have no idea, i'll ask hayes tomorrow."

he looked down at me, "test on?" i shook my head, glancing back the paper and biting my nails. when phil said they test on them, maybe he was telling the truth. but why they have to test on them. especially someone like dan.

"go lay down, i'll be back in a second." i told him and headed into the medicine room. i've avoided this room ever since what happened a few weeks ago. but i couldn't stay out of it forever, it was my job after all.
