delilahs pov
'swear to god, she's a blessing." - blackbear, girls like u
--
shit has gone down in the last two months. at the start, everything seemed ok. dan was allowed to go to the canteen now, sebastian was being freed back to his family, and fran &a phil got moved down to the second floor. so it was only dan, luke and damien on my floor.
but then it started going downhill. jc quit due to 'family problems' and he never came back, not even to visit. kian and i were left, and he was looking more stressed out and tired by the day. something weird was going on with the patients too. damien had been oddly quiet, which was not like him, and luke had shown an extremely obvious worried expression whenever i walked past his cell.
and dan?
he was the same. however, i am 99.9% certain there's nothing wrong with him. the amounts of times we've been alone in a room together and he hasn't made a move, is a very obvious clue that something definitely not right.
and i'm going to admit, i've almost not come to work anymore. there was something about the building and the people attending that made me question what i was actually doing there. but something was keeping me there, and i was yet to find out what that was.
but my job today was not to give daniel his meds, but to get to the bottom of this shithole.
it was about 5am, and i unlocked the lock on dans cell and shoved him around. "dan, get up. i need your help."
he groaned and stuffed his head in his flat pillow. mumbling something incoherent, i sighed, knowing it would be useless. i walked up to him, sitting in his bed. "dan, where are the files for patients?"
he sat up, looking at me with confusion. "why?" rolling my eyes, i grabbed a torch from one of the shelves in his room. "something's going on here."
"like what?"
"like there's nothing wrong with you."
he smiled. "they're in hayes' room." i shook my head, pulling my phone out. it read 5:18am.
"we have 10 minutes to get your files and get back up here, are you ready?" he whined, getting up and throwing on his sweater. "but i just woke up."
"hurry up," i stated and walked out. my idea was that i would grab his files, take a picture of it and examine it. i know that there's nothing wrong with him, and i'll fight for that. but something odd was happening with him, and it was the same with the whole place. and i was determined to get to the bottom of it.
"wait, how will we get past the guards?" he asked, running after me. i looked up at him, smirking. "we don't."
he furrowed his eyebrows, "what?" i held up keys to the window at the end of the corridor, grinning. he chuckled, snatching the keys out of my hand. "let's go then."
i slid open the window, glancing down. "it's not a big drop, shall i go first?" he nodded, biting his lip. i shoved my body out into the outside, hanging from the frame. i laughed, looking down. "this shit is scarier than i thought."
i let go, landing on the floor. i looked up at the lanky boy, giggling. his legs were dangling from the window. but since he was so tall, his feet were almost touching the floor. "oh god, i'm so scared. we shouldn't have done this. delilah i'm-"
i walked over to him, grabbing his waist and tugging his body down.
"oh."
i laughed, shaking my head. "you're such a dork. let's go before hayes gets here."
we reached the back door to his office, but without the key. "how are we getting in?" an idea popped into my head, grabbing a bobby pin out of my hear and crouching down next to the lock. it took a bit of work, but within a minute the door was open. looking from left to right, the area was clear - hayes wasn't here.
"ok, you guard the door and i'll take the photos."
and so we did. i opened the drawer that was labeled 'four-red' and flipped through the files.
DANIEL JAMES HOWELL, 23
i took it out swiftly and furrowed my eyebrows when i saw no papers in it. "what the fuck?" i looked around, needing to get the papers. luckily, they were laid on the desk. i sighed in content, picking them up and taking quick pictures.
"delilah, what is this?" my eyes flickered over to dan, who was pointing at empty syringe with blood on it.
i shrugged, "i don't kno- dan! the door!" i whisper-shouted as the handle started moving. "hide under the desk."
he crawled under and i shoved a chair under, making him groan. dr. hayes jumped when he saw me. "jesus, what are you doing in here?"
i cleared my throat, "uh- i was, um- getting you a coffee!" he nodded suspiciously, setting his brief case on the desk. "well then, i'll just get to work. you can leave now." he said as he started walking to behind the desk, where dan was hiding.
i stopped him, pushing him out of the door. "no! you're uh- you're coffee is in the canteen. you must get it!" he nodded at me with a confused look on his face, and walked away. i closed the door.
"that was too close. let's go." i said, but i was debating on wether or not to take the files. i agreed with myself, deciding to grab the first few papers and rushing out of the door, dan following.
"now all we have to do is find out why the fuck you're here."
