💮Saeyoung Choi [FINAL EPISODE] 💮
As soon as we arrived home, Saeyoung stayed quiet. Jumin had told us to leave so I could rest and that he'll take care of everything. Somehow, at that moment, I felt as if he was our older brother. Well, he is the oldest in the group, afterall.
"Hana," he started. I turned around to face him. He was seated on the foot of the bed, his back facing me. Somehow, the illuminated light from the moon that had peeked its way in, made his back look a little sadder. His shoulders were drooped and he was looking down. His voice sounded weak, too. "Are you done changing..?"
"Mm, yes." I answered as I took a careful step towards him. My body still remembered the pain and fright from a while ago but Saeyoung's attitude worries me more, right now. Knowing him, he's probably drowning himself in regret and blame. "Saeyoung..?"
"Don't..." his voice sounded a little broken. "...come near me... yet..." I clenched my fist on my chest as I held my wrist. My heart started to pound a bit faster than normal. "You...did you know... that someone was..." he heaved a deep breath. "That someone was after me?"
I gulped. I didn't want to answer him.
"Hana..." he begged.
"Y-Yes..." I said quietly.
He remained still. After a couple of seconds, he spoke, "When?"
"At the convenience store..." when I saw him move--as if he was leaning his elbows on his lap, I took a step forward. "Saeyoung--"
"Why didn't you tell me..."
I froze at the sound of his voice. It wasn't anger. It was the voice of someone who felt betrayed... tricked...
This time, I ignored his plea of not approaching him and stood infront of him.
He had his hands clamped together and he leaned his forehead there. His red hair falling over his hands clamped tightly. "Saeyoung... I just... didn't want you to be in danger... I wanted to help you... to keep you safe." I quietly said as I crouched, trying to meet him eye to eye.
"By putting your own life on the line? By accepting that bastard's accusation that you're me? Hey, Hana... tell me..." Slowly, he raised his head and those golden eyes, which were once filled with laughter and glow, were now swirling with pain and betrayal and tears glistened in the corner of those eyes. "If something much worse happened to you... If I had lost you..." his eyes melted as a tear trickled down his cheek. "Do you think that would be helping me?"
I couldn't answer. My chest was being squeezed and I couldn't breathe properly. My eyes started to grow warm.
"Do you think that by sacrificing yourself for me... it would make me happy? Hana..." his trembling hands reached out to me, gently cupping my face. His hands were ice cold. "I almost lost you once... Please, don't let me go through this again..." And then he pulled me into a hug. "I couldn't stop shaking until now... I couldn't stop thinking that there are more people out there who are like him and would put you in harm's way again... I couldn't... I couldn't stop being afraid you'd disappear again... I couldn't stop thinking about what would have happened if I came late... I might have completely lost you... Please. Just stop being so reckless..!"
My tears started to fall one after another. How could I have been such an idiot? Why did I go and act all heroic? Why couldn't I have just told him? We could have dealt with that man together. We could have solved the problem together. He wouldn't be crying like this.
Hey, self. I thought you didn't want to see him in pain again? So why is he crying now?
I clenched his shirt as I burried my face on his shoulder. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... I'm sorry, Saeyoung. I'm sorry..."
"Hana..." he hugged me tighter, his warmth enveloping my whole being. "I'm sorry, too. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have been in danger. If... If you wouldn't have met me--"
"Don't even continue that," I warned and tried to control my sob. My voice was trembling. "If I wouldn't have met you, I wouldn't love someone as dearly as I love you, Saeyoung." I raised my arms and hugged him gently, softly patting his head. "Don't ever talk about me not meeting you because meeting you... was the best part of my life. Having you by my side... that's already enough."
"But you'll be in danger again. I couldn't completely protect you--"
"But you did. You still came. You still saved me." I loosened the hug enough that he's just an arm's length away from me and touched his cheek. I wiped his tears with my thumb and smiled gently, "Saeyoung, if it's facing your enemies from your past identity, I won't be reckless anymore. Please? This time, I want us to face them together..." his golden eyes slowly grew wider. "We're a team, remember? Wasn't I the captain, my Seveny?"
I saw how his brows pulled together as tears rolled down his cheeks uncontrollably again and he'd hugged me, "Then... Then, will you still let me stay by your side? I promise... I promise you won't go through that again..." his arms wrapped around me tighter. His warm hand was behind my head. "Just thinking about you being in someone else's arms makes me lose my mind... I want to keep you by my side... but I couldn't guarantee your safety. But I still need you beside me..."
"In that case, I will stay. Saeyoung, I will stay by your side for as long as you want. If it's danger, I can face them. I can face them with you..."
"God... you're just so precious to me. This incident won't happen again. I swear."
"Mm," I replied as I hugged him back and patted his head.
I acted foolishly. This was the result. I didn't tell him. I didn't confide in him. He was supposed to be my partner but I did the exact opposite. All because I wanted to keep him safe. I wanted to do everything for his sake.
But it won't make him happy.
If we face all of these hardships together... I know we can get through it.
I can't let him do all the protecting. He can't let me do all the protecting, too.
Because we have to protect each other--watch each other's backs.
Isn't that how relationships should be?
"Oh, what a lovely mood we have here, meow!" the robot cat suddenly said, which made us jump a bit. "Does this mean I'll be expecting a little playmate, meow?"
Saeyoung and I looked at each other. And then I scoffed. He smiled.
We laughed.
The end.
