First day

New desk, new classroom, new schedule, new teachers and this all meant that there were new classmates. There's nothing that could have been better to Alex. A fresh start that was far, far away from his hometown. Classes that he can do better in and teachers who didn't have any grudges against him because of how much he failed in the last semester or two. He wasn't stupid or lacked intelligence in different aspects - he was just lazy, extremely lazy.

This also meant he was accompanied by different people. People he had no history with, people who didn't know him and vice versa. Which wasn't so bad because that meant he could create someone else for a change, a personality to disguise the one which made him so infamous in his previous school. So many new experiences he can have and to meet new girls or even some guys - the fun he could have.

"....group project...."

That really were the only words that registered in his head throughout his whole first English lesson. His head diverted from the window to the front, now realising he was placed into a terrifying situation - one that a transfer student couldn't have possibly prepared for on the first day. As soon as it was announced, the class was thrown into a frenzy. Everyone moved everywhere and Alex was left sitting frozen in place, nowhere to retreat.

The creepiest thing happened next. The person in front, seated to his left and the person behind him moved their chairs to surround his. His eyebrows furrowing with the feeling of suspicion and confusion. "Carter, Elana and Mia" The guy from the front of him introduced himself and the other two girls. Without any warning, they started to then discuss the contents of the project which was assigned.

"Excuse me, since when was this decided?" Alex blurted out, still confused about what was taking place. Their heads turned to him. He felt surrounded and weak under their critical gazes.

"Well, you don't have anyone else to group with, don't you?" Elana folded her arms onto his desk, an eyebrow raised in question. He shrugged and looked around and found that everyone was already in groups of four.

"Touché" His attention returned to the group project but then tilted his head to the right. Out of the corner of his eye, he made out a girl sitting alone at her desk. She seemed so lonely, out of place - as if she wasn't part of anyone's group. She wasn't.

"What about her?" He pointed to her who briefly glanced up to meet his at his gesture - a pair of green eyes meeting his brown.

"Don't even think about it." Mia murmured, glaring at the girl whose eyes returned to the paper in front of her.

"She doesn't seem so bad." He argued, starting to stand up and preparing himself to approach her. Carter kicked Alex's leg, earning a groan from him. He immediately sat back down and glared at the offender. A girly laugh came from the green-eyed girl who tried to stifle it as best as she could - it made her sound so innocent.

"Her name is Alice." Carter introduced the girl for the first time using a hushed tone.

"She's a writer," Mia added, rolling her eyes. It was Alex's turn to raise an eyebrow.

"What does that have to do with anything?" Feeling insulted since he loved to write in his spare time when he had nothing to do, or when he had plenty to do but just wanted to distract himself from the pain of reality.

"Never trust a writer; they make a living out of lying."

Ouch.
