"Life is all about trying things to see if they work"
---
As soon as I get home that day dinners ready and laid on the table, my family waiting for me return before eating.
I drop my bags on the hallway floor and take my seat in the dining room. My little sister, Lily, smiles up at me
"How was your day?" she asks eagerly, and I smile in return,
"Good thank you, how was yours?"
We continue with this conversation for a while before my dad changes topic,
"Who did you go out with today?" the wrinkles on his forehead are showing and I look at my mum, who looks equally as stressed,
"Kayla" I say, trying to act preoccupied with my plate, "I told you that"
My mum clears her throat, exchanging glances with my dad, "We don't appreciate people lying in this household" she says sternly,
I keep my eyes fixed on the food infront of me, "I'm not lying"
There's a clink of cutlery coming from my dad and I look up to see him scowling intently at me, "We know you weren't with Kayla, we saw her at the shops today"
I curse under my breath, angry at myself and her. How do I explain it now without them freaking out?!
"Who were you with?" my dad repeats himself, and I glance at my sister who seems oblivious to the tension surrounding us,
"I was with some other friends" I mutter, shoving a roast potato in my mouth and chewing slowly, trying to avoid talking
"Don't be stupid Lacy you don't have any other friends" mum tuts under her breath and I bite down angrily on my lip
"I wouldn't go by myself would i? so I was obviously with friends"
"Which friends then? Why didn't you just tell us instead of lying? What are you trying to hide?" dad snaps back,
I feel anger bubbling up inside of me and resist the urge to scream, "New friends dad, I was with new friends"
"Oh god" mum sighs, all colour drained from her face, "Did you meet someone over the internet? Some lunatic -"
I cut her off, standing up and turning away from them, "If you must know, I was with boys. That why I didn't tell you because I knew you would overreact when they're actually nothing but just friends. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to my room. Goodnight"
And with that I stormed out of the room, running upstairs and flopping down onto my bed. Now there's only one thing to do.
Scream into my pillow and cry.
The usual
------
When I wake up the next day my house is extremely quiet, and I soon discover my family have gone out for another morning stroll.
I turn over in my bed and quickly get changed, then once I'm ready I check my phone to see I have one new message.
From: Josh
Is it ok if I give George ur number?xI smile at the fact George wants my number, no one usually does, so reply a quick yes.
As soon as that's done I skip downstairs, phone In hand, and head straight for the kettle. While it boils I turn on the kitchen radio and get my favourite pink and white mug out, singing along to the song playing.
"And here's a new track, exclusive to radio 1 this morning, Union J with new track Beautiful Life!"
I freeze as the man speaks, and suddenly the track starts to play, their voices distinctive in my head. Every note they hit pulls on my heart strings, and I stay glued to the spot listening to them sing.
